AWFFS Challenge July 2016

Hey there

It's my turn to host this month and I've been out and about with my trusty camera collecting photos to work from. I wanted to cover all areas of fur, feather, scales, hair etc so I have offered a wide choice. I hope you like them and I can't wait to see what you do with them.

Guidelines for the Challenges
Please read carefully - makes everything more exciting!!

On the first of each month a reference photo or photos will be posted in a thread entitled Fur, Scales and Feathers Challenge. These are the reference photos for the Challenge, so please use them to do your artwork from.

Artwork can be any size on any surface and in any medium. (But please do tell us what you used)

Each member taking part can create a work using the chosen reference/s
(whole or cropped).

ON THE 20TH OF EACH MONTH participants will upload their interpretation of the reference for comments. PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORK BEFORE THE 20TH .

It is much more fun when everyone uploads more or less at the same time.

At the end of the month, the thread/discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

ALL PHOTOS ARE MINE AND OFFERED FOR THIS CHALLENGE.
I have uploaded the refs to the RIL an the links are with each photo.

Feel free to crop add or distort to your hearts content.

To keep it eclectic I added insects too! This was only taken 2 weeks ago at the tropical butterfly in Pili Palas Anglesey. These lovely huge and colourful critters land on you in the tropical house as you move about.

For scales we have this croc who was pretending to be a model. Nice smile hey?

Not sure if this qualifies as scale, it certainly isn't hair or fur just wrinkly skin. Mum with 3 week old baby called Ian. (odd name for a baby rhino!)

ENJOY

Great photos Lin, thanks for Hosting!
There's so many I would like to paint! Hard to choose just one!
I couldn't help but laugh at the Baby Rhino called Ian! Unusual name for a baby Rhino!

Thanks for the photos Lin! I wouldn't know which one to choose.

This might sound strange but I read the caption above the photo of Ian the rhino, then looked at the photo and thought, the name suits him

I hope to take part this month.

Re: AWFFS Challenge July 2016

I've been away so organised these a while back then added on the more recent one of the butterfly as I thought you' like it.

Before that it has been a mental 6 months. 3-4 exhibitions all with same deadlines an the logistic nightmares. I had to do my Art Alert rotation turn around, then I had to finish some pieces for the Association of Animal Artists exhibition which never got there as the clutch went in my car. So I entered them for the Coventry Open (unsucessfully as I think they like more 'contemporary' stuff) so had to take them there and collect them a week later! Then I had to get organised for the TWASI exhibition at Nature In Art in Gloucestershire. (The Wildlife Art Society International) My first time exhibiting with them. Then I went off for a much deserved holiday to Wales where I collected over 2,200 photo refs to keep me going for a while.

this last 6 months I think I've spent more time framing and moving art than I have doing any.

So I thought I'd get prepared in advance, especially as I'm off to Essex for a family do on Thursday. I've been working on a 60th anniv present artwork for them.

I'm just now thinking about stuff for next year so I don't get caught out again and I've been asked onto a committee to help organise the local art trail. (Our version of Open Studios but including venues for people, like me, who don't have studios!) I will be at the Heritage Centre for 2 days in Sept and will need some pieces to work on!

So this is why, I haven't been able to participate much on here lately.

Re: AWFFS Challenge July 2016

Hi everyone - fedetony, is Hosting the Challenge in August, but we still have no-one to Host September/ October/ November.

Hosting a Challenge is not a hard job, is a lot of fun, and it's interesting to see what members can make of your photos. You can either use your own photos refs, or use some from the RIL.

If you can Host any on these months, please either reply here or Private Message me. Many thanks.

Re: AWFFS Challenge July 2016

Viv - I've sent you a PM.

Lin - Gosh you've been busy! Good luck with the exhibitions, and what an honour to be asked onto a committee I entered my first ever art competition last month, and found that chaotic just trying to get one piece in time for the deadline - I can't imagine juggling 3-4 deadlines at the same time Good luck with it all and hope you had fun at the family do
