WIP: Hallux Christi (Working Title)

Hello there,

this is a WIP of an idea that my mind has been working out over a long time.

I have done a lot of research on the concepts and techniques of Salvador Dalí, so I came up with the idea of an representation of the crucification of Christ from a rather unusual perspective.

I did some sketches of it to see, if it would work out, here is one of them:

As that seem to work, I wanted to get some better reference, but unfortunately, I couldn't find any. I have learned, that Dalí at one point had a glass floor installed in a room near his studio, incorporating dramatic perspectives of figures and objects into his paintings. I haven't. Yet.

I took some selftimed pictures of me lying on the floor. And no, I won't show you! The comments of my wife have been hilarious enough. I'll show you a study in oil I have made of a composition of some of those pictures instead:

I felt that I was on something here, so: more to come in the following posts.

Regards,

Sascha

WIP: Hallux Christi (Working Title)

After doing the study in 120x100 cm, I felt, that the subject needs a lager canvas. I made one by myself of linen in 160x120 cm. My first one! Man, have I sworn and learned lot. But that is another story. Let's say it worked at last.

I made a sketch on the canvas, and here we are on the first details of the paintings: The first toes yesterday.

This will be very interesting to watch Sascha. I had to smile when I read of your wife's comments.

More feet. As much as I like to satisfy my latent foot fetish by painting them, I'm glad when I've finished this particular pair...

Re: WIP: Hallux Christi (Working Title)

this perspective is good. I think that will be in fashion in no time.

However , i have recently come across another artist who does those perspectives and have forgotten his name ,though.

you basically brush those feet together wet in wet, right?

Re: WIP: Hallux Christi (Working Title)

Working on the shadows got me something way too dark and dull on the right side:

I used titanium white to get the values right, but it started to get muddy that way. Adding mars yellow (which turns out to look really reddish!) gave me the colors back. Might get some highlighting here and there tomorrow, but: Time to move away from the feet!

Re: WIP: Hallux Christi (Working Title)

Very good start, do something in (our) right feet. Try to seperate the sole from the ankle. Usually the colours in the sole are lighter and with different colours than the other body. Also,i think that a little shadow under (our) left to the ankle of (our) right could be prove it more.

Re: WIP: Hallux Christi (Working Title)

@Vasilios Kats: Thank you. In fact, that was exactly what I had to work on this day. I'm not fully satisfied yet, but I got the separation of the sole now.

Also: A first part of the leg.

Re: WIP: Hallux Christi (Working Title)

This is fascinating to watch, thanks for the many images. Just wondering if you intend to put mark or holes in the feet where the nails were?
