Happy 2016, Coaltip! Your work is constantly improving! You've come a long way since I've viewed your work. Your human figure is especially good. Great detail in the clothing and good posture and sense of movement. Keep filling your sketchbook - it's really paying off!

Hi Coaltip, real nice sketches. Good energy and movement showing in the monkeys sketch, and the sketch of the human figure - wow on the clothes for detail and flow of the fabric.

Hi Jenna! Thank you for the encouragement! Your stippling works are amazing. I chanced upon your blog and saw the wire sculptures. Beautiful forms captured using wires, excellent craftsmanship!

Hi Mary, thank you! Your soft tones in graphite are inspiring!

#5 Bird Motif

This exercise is to generate an update to a previous bird motif in 2015. Hopefully there is an improvement?

Ref 1: The inspiration is from a WDE photo.

Ref 2: The elements in ref 1 were refined and etching is applied.

New idea: use a celtic knot layout and to use eagle which is also related to celtic tradition.

Generic celtic cross design:

Overlay with a eagle head:

Overlay with the a element from ref 2.

To be coninued with layers of etching~

Re: Coaltip 2016 sketchbook

Thanks for your very nice comments on my blog! I'm enjoying seeing your work, as well. Your birds are so beautiful with those almost musical backgrounds. I believe the first one might be a cardinal? It's beautiful! You ought to frame that one! Great work on this portrait of the woman, too!

Re: Coaltip 2016 sketchbook

Hi Jenna! Yes, it is a cardinal, but the proportion is out during abstraction... i need to refine/ improve it further.

#6 30-01-2016, WDE Nandie - Done!

The right eye can be more proportional ~ till the next try.

#5 Bird Motif - Finished!

I got lost halfway. There can be more white spaces for contrast. To attempt another time.
