Scavenger Hunt #422 Sept 26 - Oct 4

Scavenger Hunt #422 Sept 26 - Oct 4

If you've participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=366347

Here are the rules for the Hunt:

*All items on the list must be sketched from life - not imagination or photo reference.

*Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.

*You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.

*All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.

Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don't have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt "week" will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.

Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.

***If you have some hunt sketches completed, but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not necessary.***

Re: Scavenger Hunt #422 Sept 26 - Oct 4

#1 shelf
#2 hat
#3 napkin holder
#4 napkin
#5 chain hanging on napkin holder
#6 knife and fork
#7 nail clippers
#8 something that finishes - glass nail file
#9 from hobby other than art - crochet hook
#10 miniature tin sauce pan
#11 from this season - pumpkin candle
#12 salt and pepper shakers
#13 patterned fabric on the teddy bear
#14 light fitting
#15 condiment - packet of soy sauce
#16 saw

I used the Steven Reddy technique. First a pencil drawing, then thick ink outline and erase pencil. watered down black ink for first of 3 part grisaille shading, Then second shading with watered ink. Final ink is still watered down but darker for just the darkest areas. Then watercolor that is not really bright but muted. Add hatching sparingly. Go back over the dark outlines, then use white gel pen to add some highlights and to outline some areas around items to make them come forward. I took his class on Craftsy and have watched it several times. Well worth the time and money. Ink, Watercolor, on watercolor paper. 9x12 inches.

Meisie, OUCH, hope you are ok. Thanks for the list.

Joan, lovely beach with the new techniques.

Michelle, love the shoes, hat and ball. Fits my lifestyle! Well tap shoes were 60 or so years ago. Ha.

WP, wow, when you sketch, you sketch. I like your choices of items. Complicated light fitting. Remarks about ironing are mine sentiments, too. Yummy peppers! Clever chain and napkin holder. Smiling. The sports item looks like it could be dangerous, at least around me!

Jeanne, Oh, I love your items and the nice notes about sketching. Excellent. You know I like the napkin holder, apple and red!

I sketched on the porch as the lazy person I am. With iPad and Brushes and fingers. Very quick one.

Number 1, herb - Rosemary as I recall. Brought some in for the smell, it is supposed to help the brain. I can't keep a plant inside, just too strong a smell.

Re: Scavenger Hunt #422 Sept 26 - Oct 4

Wow, White Pen, I can't believe that you did all 26 at one time. That was fast! I think you sketched them all before I finished reading the list. LOL!

Jeanne - I love your still life's with so many of the items arranged artfully.

Jo - nice sketch of the rosemary. My herbs come out of a little bottle from the supermarket. By the way, I startedtap class at age 59. I've been doing this for 11 years now.

Ai - What a cute pattern!

My tap show is over for the year. Whew!!! We did reasonably well, no one forgot the steps, we were out of sinc a few times, but I think no one noticed but us. We practiced so much in the last few weeks that I hope I never hear the music from those two dances again. LOL

Hi gang -

Meisie - thanks for hosting, hope you get back in the move soon.

Joan - first outta the gate with a nice sketch of somebody taking in the water scene, nice - I like the way his foot is pointing and the bench is leanning in tandum….makes me smile..

Michele - are you a tap dancer???? Nice sweet shape to the shoes..oh I see your comment - you ARE a tap dancer and that is wonderful……..!!!!

WhitePen = neat work on the fencing equipment. that’s a wanna-be-a-shark clothespin with a wicked smile!! Lovely job on the napkin, love it, oh and lots of other good stuff…..wow nice work , love the space age iron, blasting out wrinkles and taking you where no iron has gone before…..a yin/yang pot …..how many hands do you need for that tool?…..ooooh, whoah, you fin…fin…..FINISHED!!!! hey, you da bomb!!!!!

J - Wow - you are aceing a close 2nd to finishing after WhitePen! Ya’ll are hot stuff!!! How did you get somany items and still the sketch looks so roomy. I just love it when sketches create more space that they started with……amazing, love the humble nail clipper…..and the pumpkin backed by the star is the shinning object of the season….great job, gurl.

Jo - oh , love the rosemary on the pink ……makes me feel so calm but not lazy but happily aware……I recognized the rosemary immediately…..sweet

Michelle - Thanks. Fun sketch of your tap shoes which are now useful in another way. lol Good hat and baseball. Nice lines on the picnic table, chain bracelet, and leaf.

White Pen - You are like a sketching machine. Good job on the fencing equipment. Well drawn folded napkin. I like your peppers and book rack. It is so rare to see a rotary phone. Good umbrella and boots!

Jeanne - Good arrangement of items for this sketch. Looks like an interesting sketching method.

Jo - Thank you. Nice rosemary sprigs. They do have a strong smell.

Ai - Cute patterned fabric. I like the unusual shaped clippers...look like they should work better than the ones I have.

Robin - Thanks.

3 - umbrellas (inside the door) - watercolors and ink
4 - appropriate for the season (pumpkins)
