complimentary colors... and NATURE

I get stumped for new color combinations sometimes - and turn to the 'hue adjustment slider' in Adobe Photoshop (Image - Adjust - Hue/Saturation).

For instance - a few minutes ago I pulled up a photo I took of our friend Mr. Peacock...

and after five minutes of play - came up with these... kind of gives you a new perspective - eh?

Adobe PhotoShock!

Psychedelic Peacocks! You should be able to come up with some really cool color combos from those birds!

You'll have to let us see them ...please.

What a great idea I'm always having trouble with color combos, looks like I'll be spending more time playing with Photoshop.

That's a GREAT idea Jill! Thanks!

.....not to mention you could do this with photos of your own beads to get a new perspective on a set you've done in the past, and "freshen it up" with a new look! COOL!

Jean,

Click on 'Enhance' then 'Tone adjustment'. I'm supposed to be getting ready for work but just had to go check it out... some very cool colors!!!

Thanks Jill!

Great color combos in that photo! I love my Photoshop.
I know the pain of "colorscheme-itis" after years as a graphic designer. The most common solution for me is to open a photo(s) that will be used in my project, and use the color picker tool to sample an array of colors.

Here's another option for those stymied by color combos:
http://www.pixy.cz/apps/barvy/index-en.html

It's an online tool that creates various color schemes. Pick a glass rod and match its color as closely as you can using the color wheel and the lightness/brightness boxes underneath...or by choosing a matching hexidecimal swatch on the right side. Then look at the color used in various schemes- monochromatic, complimentary, split complement, analagous, etc. View in the default of "normal vision" mode with "web colors" unchecked.

Also, challenge yourself to create color schemes based on items in your environment: fabrics, favorite magazine images, greeting cards, household product labels, etc.
Keep an inspiration box and throw some of these things in it for reference.

Thanks for the idea...like everyone else, it seems that color combos are not my strong suit! I'm glad to see that other people have the same problem.
