Larry...you and your son's lesson was TOTALLY AWESOME!! I never knew the steps in cartooning before....it was extremely interesting. I'm sooo glad that he has found a job in the area.....thank you very much for sharing this with us!!! And yes, please persuade him to do some lessons for us as well....like character development...submissions...etc.

What a talented family you have!!!

Wonderful lesson and what a talented son -must be genetic! So when are you doing the lesson on caricatures? I'd love to see one on that. Thanks for making the effort to bring more great content to WC!

Great lesson..and great work! I really enjoyed reading the lesson...and seeing an artist at work!

I grew up reading MAD magazine My dad and i especially liked the cartoons in the margin of the pages!

Thanks for the great feature, Larry. I'm sorta getting into cartooning myself now. I just wonder if any current strip cartoonists nowadays are actually doing everything on the computer, and dispensing with the pencil and ink work altogether?

Its not even so much the artist's preference anymore as it is the relentless assignments and deadlines many work for.

Plus...more and more printers want work on disk because their printing methods are becoming more and more mechanized, themselves using computers.

One reason my son enjoys caricaturing is that he holds the right and creative license to experiment and do whatever he wants. In fact, he had fun the night I interviewed him doing the coloring by hand.

Hey...its a busy business world out there, and you gotta do whatcha gotta do to compete and stay afloat.

Fantastic!!! I have been fruitlessly searching for something like this, only having found the "EZ How To Draw Cartoons" ilk, i.e. '...when making comic faces, give your character big funny eyes...'

Excellent explanations of materials and technique, and congratulate Jason from me.
