The Narnia Steps

I live in a strange town that is half olde England and half raw America. This painting shows part of the schizophrenia: it is part of a hiking trail that winds through the town, that is in parts just a rough path; but with little shots of civilization thrown at it. ("Nature, but not too natural as that would be impertinent.")

These steps, for example, are lit by old globe lampposts that always make me think of the entrance to Narnia -- and I feel as if I will step into another world when I take them up up up to Roslyn Avenue. I took a photo a couple of weeks ago when the blossoms were still going strong and had to try and capture The Narnia Steps.

That is not a faun on the park bench.

18 x 24" on canvasboard

C&C welcome & helpful.

Wow Colin, I can't help but think how far you've travelled since joining us! Technique, style - all ways artistically!
I like this impressionistic piece - really good comp and nicely painted.

Re: The Narnia Steps

Thanks Maureen - I am very humbled - All of your Paint A Longs and sage advice have been most helpful and I appreciate greatly the support.

Well thank you 'Blue - very kind. But that is not Howard unless he took a quick hop across the continent three weeks ago.

Patti - I told you to stop into town when you went through BC on the way to Alaska. Next time, hang a left at Montana and go due West til you hit Puget Sound. There's a Washington State Ferry from Anacortes to Sidney thru the San Juan Islands and then you arrive in Sidney, very close by us. Or scoot over the border and sail over via Tsawassen through the Gulf Islands.

Thanks Cindy! Thanks Cliff! Thank you Michelle.

Thank you Chammi - glad you like it.

Re: The Narnia Steps

Nice work! Two of our sons live in Vic. When we were down last year for a visit, I took a photo of the Robert Bateman Center and I notice it has 5 globes on the lamp post. I also took enough paint subject photos to keep me painting until the cows come home...and we don't even have any cows!
