Snape Maltings Suffolk

Hello everyone,

Here's a view that has been painted many times - Snape Maltings on the River Alde near Aldeburgh in Suffolk. There is an Art Complex and an annual Aldeburgh Concert Festival here.

I painted this very quickly this morning in an attempt to capture the essence of the place without much detail. It has half "come off" I think but doesn't bear close inspection! However, bits of it I like and I think I will return to the subject. 14x10 in. on Arches Rough.

Mike

I like that a lot, Mike. I really like the white boat against the dark wharf and building.

Wonderful use of the white of the paper for that boat. It's a great painting for a quick one.

Well done Mike! The quick, spontaneous sketches usually capture the scene in the impressionistic style alot of us strive for.

Indeed a famous view for those who like British watercolour artists (and townhouse DVDs). Quite good for a quick one and I think and it definitely conveys an sense of atmosphere and of the place in general. What more do we want in watercolour? So, nicely done and I'm waiting for the second go.

Regards
Christian

Good reference and lovely water and sky. Perhaps a bit dark on the buildings and wharf but nice impression! I too hope you will do another.

Nice one, Mike! The white boat is definitely the star of the show - love it against the dark background - and a great reflection too. Well done!

Re: Snape Maltings Suffolk

Thank you one and all for your favourable comments on this rather slapdash effort. I will have another go at a similar, if not identical, scene. From past experience, second attempts are not always better. We shall see!

Hi Mike

Come on now this is lovely, peaceful & dramatic that sky is something else. I like the I painted it this morning, that's real talent. Tried to think of a quirky response but no it would have spoiled the moment.

Take care

Fred
