Hi there.
I am pleased to be hosting this week's WDE and hope you'll have time to join in.

I will be posting 16 images. Please wait until all are uploaded before commenting - thank you.

You have 30 minutes to make your choice and choose your materials - you may use any medium.

For the next two hours, just go for it……then STOP!, scan or photograph your work and post it in your own new thread with your title, beginning with WDE, plus date, plus title.

When you introduce your work, please add a description of size, medium, support (paper, canvas etc) and time taken.
If your work is digital, we'd appreciate a description of whether it's freehand drawing/painting, manipulated image or done using the filters available in some programmes - you could also say which programme you've used.
All are acceptable but we'd like to know the "hows, whys and wherefores"!!

Use WIP for any work in progress at the 2 hour mark, and MI for multiple images if other works are to be added before the following Monday.

NB. To avoid forum flooding, please put all of your work during the weekend, for the current WDE, into a single thread: multiple threads will be merged!
From the following TUESDAY, you may open a new thread for later work.

You have the whole week to participate - until the next WDE starts (usually Friday). If you finish a piece after that time, please post in its own thread and try to give the date/host of that particular week - if you can!

In the Autumn I spent a lovely week in the Cotswolds area of England and the City of Gloucester which is steeped in history. We visited a wetlands sanctuary, Nature In Art, Slimbridge WWT, Gloucester Docks and then made our way home through quaint villages and visited Birdland. It was unusually sunny and warm for the time of year. I thought it would be nice to share some of the many reference photos I took on my tour.

So here goes.....

I'll start with a popular chap who missed us while we were away and gave us a warm welcome indeed when we got back.

DAVE THE CAT

RIL http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/show...81566&cat=3711

This one was taken at birdland. There was a whole clan of them. I think they watched us as much as we looked at them.

PELICAN

RIL http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/show...81574&cat=3346

also taken at Birdland in Bourton-on-the-water are these lovely King penguins. there are only 2 lots in the whole of the UK. It was strange because all the Kings stood one side of the water and the Humbolts stood the other. But they all went off for a swim together. One of the kings is a character called Frank whose hobby is splashing tourists.

One of the Macaws at Birdland in Bourton

MACAW

Nature In Art was literally down the road from out hotel in Twigworth. It is an old hall that is now a museum dedicated to art inspired by nature. As well as the hall there are splendid gardens which have sculptures dotted around. There are also 2 artists in residence, on 2d and one 3d. We sat in the garden in front of a wall where these grapes were growing. In October in England!

GRAPES

The beautiful sundrenched gardens at Nature In Art.

WALLSWORTH HALL & GARDENS

RIL http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/show...=181567&cat=39

The city of Gloucester is steeped in history. This is a street near the 12th century cathedral.

GLOUCESTER STREET

RIL http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/show...puser=17 9312

Gloucester is the most inland docks which were declared Royal by Queen Elizabeth I. They stand on the River Severn. Here an old galleon is undergoing a restoration project.

GLOUCESTER DOCKS

RIL http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/show...&ppuser=179312

This old pub is typical of the pubs and stone architecture of The Cotswolds and is on the road through Bourton-on-the Water.

THE OLD NEW INN

http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/show...puser=17 9312

The river Windrush is beautifully clear and runs through the heart of The Cotswolds village Bourton-on-the-Water. It was warm and people were relaxing by the river.

More to come......

...and more...

Slimbridge on the Severn estuary is a protected nature reserve and part of the Wetland Wildlife Trust. Even though they have some resident birds, because of the environment and the regular feeding many birds just turn up of their own accord. Who would blame them when nice humans feed them. Many birds will take from the hands and are amazingly gentle. They follow you about if you have a tell tale brown paper bag. Here Dave is feeding some rather persistent geese.

DAVE FEEDING GEESE

There are many accessible hides dotted around, they are even wheelchair friendly and have higher and seating openings for viewing and binoculars. We spotted some very rare and interesting birds.

BIRD WATCHING

RIL http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/show...=181569&cat=57

Here I am sat on the bench from the previous photo in the gardens of Nature In Art. There were only Dave and I to take photos of so I pretty much had to use us. No narcissism intended.

LIN ON BENCH

No RIL upload for this one - sorry, it's just for the WDE

This beautiful gold statue is in the grounds of Nature In Art. There is also a lovely view over the farmlands of the Severn Valley region.

GOLD EAGLE

Still life for a challenge with all the metal and reflections. This is found in the Treasury inside Gloucester Cathedral. There are many historic treasures too.

GOLD TANKARD

RIL http://www.wetcanvas.com/RefLib/show...81573&cat=3698

Here is the RIL link to the invitation photo if any of you are interested in that.

Please take no notice of the © mark. It is because I put them on social media and don't want people using them without permission as photos. I am of course happy for you all to use them! In fact I would LOVE to see what you do with them.

Have fun

Re: **wde 9 Jan 2015** Images

The chocolate reference comes from an tradition of people using photos of places like this as pictures on chocolate boxes.

Cadbury's is awesome!

The weather was gorgeous and warm.
