lovely lovely

great wip

BUT *hate to be the only one*

I think they need to be a little redder in places....and maybe darker....look at the values

THEN...I think it will REALLY knock your sox off

Lynn

I keep coming back here to have a look at them !!! They look so inviting.........
Couldn't wait to try some tomatoes myself using the purple underpainting for the first time.
Must admit I would never think about it to do it this way, it seems to work.......although 'my tomatoes' don't come any near to yours !!
btw: where can I find Em's thread on the purple underpainting subject????

I think there are some tomatoes being painted since your entry !!

I love them, I thing they are yummy, but Pam is right - they aren't completely grounded - I was looking for stronger shadows under them - wasn't going to comment until I read Pam's reply .... so I'm a "jump on the wagon type", shoot me.

Wow, thank you so much everyone!!

I'll have to sit on this one a bit and ponder the great feedback. I fixed the greenish/grayish thing in the back and it's already better. Agree that maybe a few variations of red would work.

Pam, thanks for the grayscale, I think you're right. Funny, the values looked fine in the underpainting, but I guess because the green and red are fairly the same on a value scale, they seem to throw it off? I'll try to work a bit on that... this is due in a couple days, so hopefully I have time to fix that. If not, it'll be a learning experience for the next time!

Thanks for looking, everyone!

Lynn

Geoff: Yes, you and I both! LOL! I tried growing tomatoes last summer, but unfortunately the squirrels kept stealing them and dropping the half-eaten tomatoes on my front porch. I think they were trying to tell me something! HAHA!!

Thank you Irene!

Re: Demo - Tomatoes on the Vine ** WIP ** Underpainting

I am an absolute beginner at WetCanvas.
These tomatoes are really awesome. Thanks for the detailed step by step techniques shown here. Encouraged and tried for the first time painting stilllife in watercolors and was happy doing it. Thought did not come anywhere near yours but feel confident that with practice I can paint wcolors too.
