Re: June 2014 Plant Parade

It is a rude expression in the U.S. also but I took it the way Meggs meant it to be.

I am curious as to how you used the straw though and on what part of the painting. I know watercolorists use this method but I thought you were using acrylics. Just my curiosity ya know!?

Lovely paintings everyone and one of my favorite flowers. I know I say 'favorite' about most flowers, but I like most flowers.

Re: June 2014 Plant Parade

I finished my painting today- I worked from a photo I took of blooms in my yard this year.
Perfect timing for this challenge! They are such beautiful flowers.

This is acrylic on canvasboard, 12"x12"

Re: June 2014 Plant Parade

What lovely work everyone has posted!

Viv, love your watercolors - so soft & fresh! And the pastel one is magnificient! Looks like an old-world Master! Well done!

Maureen, you captured some wonderful lighting and colors in yours, beautiful piece!

Meggs, it is hard to paint loosly, isn't it? (I have that problem too) but your peopny is just lovely!

Jean, love the look of yours. The colors in that first one are so muted and subtle, perfect background for your soft lavender peony. Very serene. the red one jumps off the page!

Dewi- bold & beautiful! Great color selections!

Sandy, I like your loose style & soft colors, it suits this big bloom.

Vicky, kudos on your underpainting & final results - very pretty!

ArtsyMom, Your peonies sing with color and look very happy in their garden setting! Nice composition.

Lea, gorgeous! Really enjoyed your WIP photos, too. Its always interesting to watch a painting come to life!

I'm looking forward to seeing more posts!

Re: June 2014 Plant Parade

Well, everyone's works are just outstanding, and not quite done with mine so here it is a WIP...should finish tomorrow so hope no one makes a fast gallery (Chuckling over Meggs' remark about the straw...men say BJ but only to themselves and never in mixed company)

Size is 11x15 watercolor on Italia cold press paper, a white peony and bloom.

Re: June 2014 Plant Parade

Hi everyone. Sorry for not popping in yesterday but it was one of those days. An air traffic controllers strike and people trying to arrive for their holidays in the apartments, so didn't have the chance. I still need to photograph mine, so will do that asap.

Viv
Not sure what you were worried about. I love the first one - nice and dreamy and the second good composition and Nice ethereal look. Good one from before.

Maureen Nice with just enough suggestion to define the flower.Like the touch of splashed paint.

Meggs Oh My! What a beauty and glad you learnt something new.

Jean As usual envious of the way you can use AR. Lovely

Dewi Gorgeous - Love the swirly background and that blue makes the red/pink pop.

Sandy I can feel the fullness of the flower. Well done.

Vicky The loose underpainting is a good way to start and you've produced a nice and lively flower.

Lil It's as though you were standing in my garden to paint this. Very nice.

Lea Glad you stopped when you did Perfect.

Pat Just gorgeous.

Kay This looks well on the way to being another one of your superb creations.

Thanks all for joining in the spirit of the challenge. Everyone has done so well.

Re: June 2014 Plant Parade

I just had to give this one a go. Peonies are among my favorite flowers. I used a reference from CharM that I downloaded some time ago with the purpose of painting it sometime in the future. The future is now. I cropped the reference a bit and also simplified the petals somewhat. I guess I can't paint something without making some changes in the reference. But I really did enjoy painting this one.

This is done in acrylics on 16 x 20 canvas:

All C&C welcome and encouraged!

I'll be back later to comment on all the wonderful entries. It's gonna be quite a gallery.

Beautiful paintings from you all! I'm out of town this week until Sat. I'm gonna try and upload from phone. We shall see how that goes! Both are 9x12 watercolors/140lb. There is third one but may have to wait until I am home again. Much love to you!

Judy, what a stunner! Glorious color!

Chana, I love them both! Clearly, you've got painting loose down pat! These are exactly what I think of when I think of painting loose...shame I can't quite manage to get that loose myself!

Re: June 2014 Plant Parade

Now to try and comment, I find this really hard to do as my computer wont stack pages... So forgive if I miss anyone...

Sandy, Lovely and loose, yet detail is there.. Love the touch of green and the background.

Vicky,, great to have you joining us, really appreciate the WIP photo...
I dont work with pastels but what a lovely painting... Love everything about it..shading and movment in the petals... Top Job

Lil...You aced it... beautiful comp, beautiful painting..

Lea.... Thanks for the WIP's.... I really find seeing how others approach a painting very beneficial . This is a beautiful piece, it is loose but its all there also in detail... Love your backgound leaves also..

Pat glorious flower, I wish I could turn out Petals lke that..... great to have you with us. Please dont forget where we are!!

Kay hurry up and finish, this looks like a winner. I see you draw in your sketch.. Lucky you... I cant draw for nuts so have given up.. I work better freehand with the brush

Judy ... another winner... Loose and detailed.. cant ask for better..Honestly sometimes I feel like giving up on Florals... I think its actually probably one of the hards subjects.

Chana... I hate you (said with love) .. Honestly you seem, to do everything so effortlessly... These are Magic

Thanks for your kind comments on mine, I shall keep trying and trying, I win one and I loose more... but Thanks to you ladies, Im learning...
Lov you all, and yes, re my comment on blowing straws and job.... Yep I do like to stir the pot.... Hey its an Aussie thing....
