Marketing murals

This is a business related question, but since it's specific to murals and decorative painting, I have placed it here.

Who does a muralist/decorative artist market to? And, what methods have you found effective, especially when you first began?

Thanks.

Don

Especially let interior designers and home decorators know about you. There are also designers who work specifically with businesses and hotels. However, my best advertising has been my work itself, and word-of-mouth.

Hmmm... I can talk about that so much, because I did only two murals in my life ... both by acrylic colors. First was experiment, but it brought me new people who asked me to paint for them picture, but they were mostly private persons who couldn't pay so much for big murals, so they asked me to paint some smaller oil picture. I agree with Ruth, that best advertisment is work itself.

Hello Maffet,

Thank you for your reply.

My first mural work, some time ago, was also from a friend who asked me to help with a project. I think you and Ruth are both right, and I will continue sending my postcards to my mailing list, and doing art in the meantime. The more people who see my work, the more work I am likely to get.
