Arrow WDE IMAGES here: Jan 10 -17 2014

Welcome to this second WDE of 2014.

Cast aside those winter blues and think about Spring!

I will be posting 16 images and a challenge

You have 30 minutes to make your choice and choose your materials - you may use any medium.

For the next two hours, just go for it……then STOP!, scan or photograph your work and post it in your own new thread with your title, beginning with WDE, plus date, plus title.

When you introduce your work, please add a description of size, medium, support (paper, canvas etc) and time taken.
If your work is digital, we'd appreciate a description of whether it's freehand drawing/painting, manipulated image or done using the filters available in some programmes - you could also say which programme you've used.
All are acceptable but we'd like to know the "hows, whys and wherefores"!!

Use WIP for any work in progress at the 2 hour mark, and MI for multiple images if other works are to be added before the following Monday.

NB. To avoid forum flooding, please put all of your work during the weekend, for the current WDE, into a single thread: multiple threads will be merged!
From the following TUESDAY, you may open a new thread for later work.

You have the whole week to participate - until the next WDE starts (usually Friday). (If you finish a piece after that time please make a new thread but try to include the name of the host and the date from the relevant WDE if you know it!)

After posting your contribution, please view others’ entries and comment and encourage when you can. Unless requested, please refrain from critiquing.

All the images (apart from one) are my own photographs and higher resolution ones are in the RIL.

Hope you find something of interest to tickle the 'paint buds' ..... enjoy!

Click on the image to take you to the higher res. one in the RIL.

************************************************** ************

Pretty cowslips, a welcome sign of spring around our village.

Then the pansies - these flower for a long time on the deck of our holiday home.

The rhodos are always a gorgeous sight in Spring - these are from Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate, Yorkshire.

This rooster is courtesy of a friend and guide here on WC - Idylbrush - he always manages to find some interesting creatures and plants to point the camera at!

In Yorkshire last October I found this little fellow snoozing in the sun - the photo isn't the best quality, sorry, but I only had the phone with me!

... and because I know you love cats, here's Minerva my sister's very snooty cat!

I have some 'people' pics for you -

At the Fountains Abbey tea rooms some Mummers came by and performed their play -

On a hot day people were playing Crown Bowls - this fellow was quite good!

This was from Christmas - my nephews making Irish Coffees for us after lunch. (No higher res. for this one, and it's for this WDE only, thanks)

Re: WDE IMAGES here: Jan 10 -17 2014

Still life:

I'm a sucker for pretty things and kept this gift bag - it goes well with the silk scarf and necklace!

I also like Teddy Bears! We collected a couple from holidays (bought, not pinched!!)

After Charlie died my neighbour gave us this little scottie - I found him on the doorstep one morning!
Best friends, Teddy and JJ:

A scene from Ripon, Yorkshire where we spend a lot of time in the summer.

The Water Rat

This is from Snowshill Manor in the Cotswold Hills, Gloucestershire.

The Manor house - full of 'collectibles' by a very eccentric former owner - amazing collections ... the owners lived in a separate building, tiny!

And this last beautiful scene is Bourton on the Water, also in the Cotswolds, a very popular tourist attraction!

A bit of a challenge if you'd like it -
As some of the images are quite complex, look at the high res version in the RIL and zoom in to a smaller section/group/still life/flower and try that.

Otherwise, just enjoy yourselves!

Don't forget, just click on the image above to take you to the larger version

Love all the references, tough decision.

While I was inactive I missed Charlie's passing. So sorry to hear about it, he was such a cutie and I know how much you loved him.
