Radiance, Flemish oil painting.

One of my goals in 2013 was working on Flemish-style oil paintings. I did several small floral art work in this style and this one was a last finished piece of the year. 11 x 14", Oils and Old Master's Maroger on Ampersand Gessobord.

Outlines of future painting carefully transferred in graphite and then fixed with India Ink. Excess of graphite carefully lifted off with kneaded eraser.

Drawing overpainted with first layer of oil - imprimatura layer.

I'm working with burned umber then, starting from background and finishing up with more delicate things,as petals etc.

When done with umber, I'm working on so called dead-layer what will help future color layers to look more vibrant and full of life.

Beginning of color layering.

Second layer of color.

Finished work.
I was under impression I did post it before, but after I checked my posts, it look like - I didn't do that.... Hope You like it and if so - enjoy!

Thank You, David! I do have Arletta's book and last year had a chance to see her works in person... we were at the same show in Carmel, California. The 7th Annual Show of International Guild of Realism. (IGOR). Whole event was outstanding, I truly was honored to be a part of it.

Re: Radiance, Flemish oil painting.

I do commend you for your patience in following this tradition Tatiana - it's so lovely to see the work developing and it always seems like magic to me that glorious colour comes after all that umber and 'dead layer' painting!
You do these beautifully and always end up with lovely works.

Re: Radiance, Flemish oil painting.

Thank You to all! I'm not finding it hard to do meticulous work and do not get tired of it... plus so far each layer has to dry I have plenty of time to do my other projects... and some of those compare to this one could be almost considered "quick draw".

Wonderful work Tatiana! And many thanks for your WIP's too
. Its always fascinating to see a painting gradually evolve like this. I commend you for your patience, but the end result is certainly worth all that time and effort - beautiful!
