Graphics tablet - I need a pen! Help

Hi everyone,

Bought myself an absolute bargain graphics tablet from eBay (Wacom One - CTE 460) but being a bargain means that it comes with no pen.

Is anyone able to tell me how compatible pens are with other bamboo models? I ask this because I can't find anywhere online from which to buy a specifically cte 460 pen and am worried that I bought something which I won't be able to use.

Any help, I'd be really grateful.

ps. this would be my first tablet, so I have no experience, hence going for the cheapest thing out there to get a feel.

A compatible pen is essential as you have found. With Wacom tablets pens are "active" and don't simply use pressure.

Thanks Doug. I was hoping that one wacom pen may function on a number of different wacom tablets. I've tried very hard to get a response from wacom directly but no response.

You can purchase replacement pens on Amazon.

Here's a video showing the pen.

You should check with Wacom the pen number, they could probabbly supply a pen, or you could search the web.

Here's post from the Wacom forum

The Bamboo One CTE-460 differs in the used technology from the Bamboo One CTF-430.
Therefore you will need a different pen. As the Bamboo One CTE-460 has not been on sale in Europe, you will need to get the original pen from the originating country.
Or you try a replacement. in this case the EP- pens of the Graphire tablet series are what you are looking for. Like http://eu.shop.wacom.eu/Spare-Pens/Bamb ... -Graphire4.

Here's one.

Re: Graphics tablet - I need a pen! Help

I would suggest calling Wacom here in the states if at all possible. I've called a few times and I spoke to a real person, who was very helpful. The corporate office is here in Vancouver, WA, so I'd suggest calling PST. Recently, I dropped and broke the mouse to my Intuos3. They will ship me a new one, but it is $60 which, is almost as much as I can buy a similiar used tablet, mouse & pen, so I've just been using a USB mouse and using my tablet only for pen work. They don't deal with used equipment, but I'm sure they will ship you a compatible pen. Unfortunately, it may be almost as expensive as buying a whole new tablet.

Thanks Elaine - this is really helpful. I'm in the UK so I'll try after the new year. Sort of kicking myself for jumping on the purchase so quickly.

A quick question - as a beginner tablet, consider I'm not a pro or anything, I expect that the bamboo range should be sufficient at this point (I'll also be 'learning' adobe from scratch). So ... should it transpire that I decide to buy another tablet if for some reason I can't get a pen for this one, would you have any recommendations? For example, I wonder how many people actually use 6 x 4 size tablets long-term ... etc etc!

I personally like a small tablet, simply because that's what I got used to, it fits on my desk, in my lap, and it fits in my laptop bag for on the go. There's more levels of pressure sensitivity in the more expensive tablets, but again, I think it's all what you get used to using.
