Pam, the background is hundreds of squares, hand-made! They are different shapes and sizes. I leave almost no visible background, but i do work with a dark underpainting. This is a large painting 23"x29", so some of the squares are as big as 1 square inch. It takes time to get the background to where it should be but the final look is really attractive. Thanks for watching...
