Reminds Me of Philly

Howdy, All!
This is a (bad) picture of a painting my son, Tim requested for Christmas.
I had asked what he wanted and he said he'd like a painting of the Philadelphia skyline with the four major team logos around it.
It is 16x20" on canvas with acrylic.

My first ever skyline! I like it!

Sorry so blurry! I managed to completely eliminate the good pictures when my computer threw a fit & refused to resize
Oh well! I can paint more!!!

That reminds me of Philly too. I have buzzed past that fountain innumerable times in my little white racer. Well done.

Re: Reminds Me of Philly

I love the Philadelphia Art Museum - not just because of Rocky, or even the stunning architecture, but because it is a museum that seems to be just like a Noah's Ark or art - 2 of every Great Artist. I wish our art galleries in BC had a collection even 1/10thas good.

I took my son there when he was 14 - just old enough to put up with a couple of hours in an art gallery - and he got a crash course in European art history from that single museum.

Very nice painting and I'm sure your son loves it. I particularly like the lights coming from the windows of the tallest buildings. That tallest one was definitely not there when we visited in 2002!

Re: Reminds Me of Philly

Funny april: I have to do a painting of Philly for a wedding couple next Fall.
Your image is cool and gives me ideas. I like the floating logos, but they are after a realistic scene of South Philly.
Enjoyed your painting.

Re: Reminds Me of Philly

Thank you for all the nice comments!
Lady Carol, you must love wind in your hair That fountain was indiscernable looking at my reference photo, I had to Google like mad to find a decent photo (& still, I wish I'd given myself a little more time to work on that specifically).
Blue, have you made yourself a cheesesteak yet? Your fixation is making me want one...( I'll take mine with fried onions & American cheese on an Amoroso roll, please).
Derek, remember to get an idea of what time of day & what season your commission should be. I hadn't thought past day or night when I started out & then remembered all of the fireworks at this exact spot, how the bridges & taller buildings change color depending on holiday, the spotlights, the planes & blimps & stadiums. Philly is so colorful & full of character. I had the good fortune to work down by the Philadelphia Int. Airport & was lucky enough to get stuck in rush hour traffic north on 95 many times The bridges have lights under, over & through them. And I'm sure you know better than to take Blue's suggestion!
Colin, I'm not sure when that particular building sprung up. It was there in 2009 and I remember wondering that myself. It reminds me of a perfect new eraser, I don't know why- just weird, I guess!
That museum does have a magic quality about it
Chammi, yes he does, and so do all of his buddies & his girlfriend!
Bhavani, Barsha & Kathy, Thank you for the kind words!

Doing a piece in a new and untried (for me) genre kinda froze me up pre-painting, but I learned so much by doing this. The next one will be even better!

Re: Reminds Me of Philly

Derek

Serious for a moment......one of the most scenic views of Philly and any native would recommend is 'boathouse row along the Schuykill(spelling?) River'.....also the old city....'Independence Hall' or the 'Betsy Ross Home'....or 'Rittenhouse Square' or the Cathedule of Sts Peter and Paul on Logan Circle.....can't believe I still remember all that....don't remember what I had for breakfast this morning.....

I went to college in Philly for 5 years......but many years ago, before becoming a 'Giants' and 'Yankees' fan.....

Woah, Blue- those are Phightin words! hahahahaha you should know better since you've infiltrated as an innocent "student".

On your serious note, true, there are so many places to see in Philadelphia, Derek is playing Mystery Man & keeping the lid on it so far!

Derek, any directives with your Philadelphia painting?

Re: Reminds Me of Philly

Derek could do a portrait of the local 'Philly' hero......Michael Vick!.....

by the way.....I used to go to the 'Iggles' games when they were @ Franklin Field (U of Penn Stadium).....was an 'iggles fan for 30 years, then I saw the light.......go Giants.....
