Re: What's On Your Easel February 2013
After much thought, I decided to go with the "story", in this one, rather than a portrait of a horse; mainly because the photo was in black and white, and I am totally guessing on too much. Lots and lots to do yet...but after I finally got bold enough to really put some color on the horse, I decided I like it. I was losing the light, so somehow I lost my darks on the right side of the canvas, but this should give you an idea of where I am at...

Re: What's On Your Easel February 2013
Okay, here we go. I am taking a flying leap on this one. My sister asked me to design a needle point piece for her club of Airstreamers. So I am now doing the first landscape in over 30 years, might as well be 300.
So, promise not to laugh and remember it is still in progress. I'm a bit rusty.

Howard...I like this! Is it on cloth? so it can be put in a holder? or will it be a painting of what looks like needlepoint?

This now on paper. Eventually they are going to make needlepoint of it to sell and the proceeds will go to help disabled veterans. They want a total of four designs, one for each season. Thought this would be a good summer.

Re: What's On Your Easel February 2013
love these
I've started new ones (one with the leftover paint on the pallet.) New canvases are so full of possibility, so the one with just sky is on the wall for now

Mary, "the sky" somehow feels nearly complete. I like it. Has that wonderful minimalist feel about it.
Making some progress. Will do more on it this afternoon.

Re: What's On Your Easel February 2013
Kathie, you do such cute cows
Howard, this is a pretty cool idea your sis had...tho' I realize it leaves you with quite a bit of work... I am sure you can do it, and that the end result will be wonderful on so many levels!
Mary, both are neat, and I agree with Howard...I like the 'sky'!
I was getting frustrated with the horse...so I thought I'd do something else to 'relax'... Boy am I nuts!! Kat (former WC artist who painted on drums and saws among other things)had been playing with an app that makes kaleidoscopes, and reminded me of those I used to do with graphics programs. I'd often admired the more geometric paintings, and wondered if I could pull one off. Why I ever thought it would be easy is beyond me...or relaxing... But...it is kind of fun to play...and we shall see where it goes. When it is dry, I will tape it for some straight lines, and then get out the pouring medium which I had fun with when I made that crystal ball...and then who knows?
It is 12x12 wrapped canvas...

As good as it is going to get. Remember this is being translated into a cross stitch or needle point piece. So, kept it simple.

Love the Airstreamer! and the valentine and the kaleidoscope -- although that wouldn't be my idea of relaxing! all those lines!

Re: What's On Your Easel February 2013
This has been on my easel since last June when I last posted. It was interupted because of a busy work schedule but with some recent time off I've resumed the work. I had hoped to enter it into an annual local show last August but maybe this August would have been more realistic! I've spent the last couple of days finishing off much of the background trees, adding details to the rocks in the center and putting in some grasses. Not sure if I'm done with this but it seems to be what I wanted, maybe some more flora in the foreground but I'm not sure it won't detract from the action in the center.
