Re: Quick-Dry-Cafe February 2013
Got my morning ride in and am liking the lighting. I tend to like to ride a dawn. Between the helmet, the spokes and the head and tail lights, it is pretty sharp. Still trying to get the speedometer to work. The directions that came with it seem to be incorrect. So, still playing with it until I get a bike rack and take it back to the store and have their specialist take a gander at it.
Started the project for my sister, a little at a time.
Have early meeting Monday morning and trying to prepare for that.

Ohio at one time was part of the Northwest Territory and now the Midwest. I find it funny thinking of it as Northwest. People migrated there because of the fertile ground. Lots of farmland with good soil although some of the northern counties were swamp (no longer). My grandfather talked about the wildlife. among which were bison, deer and elk. Still plenty of deer but no bison or elk. Lots of timber but was mostly cut down to farm. Some of the Native Americans were friendly, others were hostile. Can't say as I blame them since we (including my ancestors) invaded their land. See, I did learn something when in school!
Grits are a southern thing, Buckeyes (Ohioans) only eat them if they were transferred south and acquired the taste. I am officially a damned Yankee because I came south and stayed.

Re: Quick-Dry-Cafe February 2013
Hi everybody!
On Monday I will have an appointment at the hospital where they will explain the risks of the appendix operation to me. Then I will have to sign the paper telling them that I will know what I'm doing (I hope those docs know what they are doing!). Everybody's telling me that an appendix operation is the most normal thing of the world, takes about half an hour and is a standard thing. Ok, I believe it, but it's a strange feeling nevertheless. Will have the operation on the 5 February, stay in hospital about three days and be able to leave the hospital on the coming weekend.
I am glad to hear that you enjoy your bike, Howard!

Re: Quick-Dry-Cafe February 2013
Ulla, me being a bit on the skeptical side, weigh the doctors words with great care. In my case I was told that they had caught it early, there was no doubt that they cured it and there were going to be very few side effects. Here I am 3 and a half years later with enormous side effects and the return of the issue with a vengeance. Yes, your surgery is a daily occurrence. It is done by many doctors. In your meeting you might ask how many times the surgeon doing your procedure has done this procedure. Ask about any and all side effects. Worst case scenario, general recovery time, medications needed during recovery, and be sure to write down your question in a check list. That way you won't forget or get sidetracked. In other words, be well informed. One of my favorite questions is "if I were your brother (in your case sister) and came to you for a second opinion, what would you tell me". That really gets them thinking.
Chilly here this morning. Had to wear gloves on my bike ride. Must have looked silly as I had a thin, but, insulated jacket, gloves and shorts. Oh, the price for living in Florida.
Worked a bit on the speedometer and still don't have it right. It will eventually work. Think I need another spoke light for the back wheel, it's a second childhood thing. Just having some fun with it for sure.

Re: Quick-Dry-Cafe February 2013
Hi all,
Ruthie come on now girlfriend you can be excited it's your first show, celebrate it and wishing you a fantastic one too.
Maureen I don't know if there are any protected trees in NYS, I know you come near my trees and I will seriously hurt you...haha Does that make me a tree hugger... Maybe cause every time Larry goes out with a chain saw I'm behind him with a cast iron fry pan...
Ulla ask lots of questions, it is a rather frequent procedure but still however it's performed it is an operation. I'm sure all will be well but to give yourself some peace of mind ask no matter how silly the question sounds to you, not to mention that here they don't like being asked questions so I make a full list just to annoy them...haha
Chammi sweetie hope all is well, sorry never got back to answering you that day just got completely away from me.
Hey Mary how's it going, hi Kathie still the energizer bunny I see...
Hi Howard sounds like you are really enjoying your bike riding , Spencer, Patti hope your knee is doing better, Shirl my girl come spring thaw we'll chat..haha
Hey Blue sounds like you've gotten around kiddo I'll eat Cream of Wheat but grits um not so sure..haha Sue sweetie hi, how's dad? n mom?
Raymo my man do tell the cat got your tongue, which in Merywn's case is probably not all that unreasonable, hugs cutie.
Okay loves ya but it's cold..haha so I'm retreating, really would love to move my studio..can't have a winter home but maybe I can have a winter studio in my home - next to the furnace maybe...haha
Have a great Sat. everyone will catch ya later
Hugs all round,
Elaine

Re: Quick-Dry-Cafe February 2013
The opening reception of my 1st show went very well! Except for the part that I didn't know I had to speak a bit! Had a 5 minute warning But it went well. Many special friends came to support me, I met a lot of people, had great responses to my work and two sales so far!
The display goes until Feb. 23rd, so maybe there will another sale or two.
A couple cell phone pics before people came.
I was very happy with the way they displayed things!

Re: Quick-Dry-Cafe February 2013
Ruth, from the pictures, the show looks great. Congratulations on the sales...hope you get some more.
Patti, it is funny thinking of Ohio being part of the Northwest Territory. I guess it was at the time, but I live in Oregon and you can't get much more north and west in the continental US without making a splash. People came to Oregon in search of the same things that the settlers of Ohio were seeking...good farm land and a chance for a better life. I sometimes think that we've lost out from what our predecessors had. There's not much chance to go to a new and unsettled space and try to build something up with your own sweat and drive.
Howard, we need photos of you on the bike, preferably at night with the lights on. My mental image of it makes me smile. Glad you're enjoying it. Any new stencils with your new machine?
Ulla, I hope your surgery goes well. Never a pleasant prospect to have to endure, but it's a blessing that the laproscopic techniques surgeons use these days can have us up and on our feet again so much quicker.
Elaine...huddle around the fire and stay warm. Blue, Kathie, Maureen, Chammi, Raymo and everybody else...enjoy your day and happy painting.

Re: Quick-Dry-Cafe February 2013
Those little red dots will do the soul good. Glad it went so well.
No card on the spokes........yet! No bell or horn either, also no handlebar tassles.
Got the second LED spoke light, so now have them front and rear. The guy I purchased the bike from was in the store today and I asked if they had gotten any bike racks in yet. He said they hadn't. Then he asked if I would consider a used one. I said sure, as long as it was complete. He had traded some items he had with a friend, in return he got a few items one of which was a bike rack. He told me about it and I checked it out and it was a $120 rack and he wanted $60.00 and we agreed and tonight I pick up a bike rack so I can take my bike back and forth to the shop without destroying it in the back of the truck.
A little more work in the studio and then lunch soon. very soon. Starving. Then more painting and bookwork until I go to get the bike rack.
According to my doctor I am no longer on the obese list, now I am just overweight. I can handle that.

Re: Quick-Dry-Cafe February 2013
I have to be part Raven. I see something sparkly and I have to have it. Saw this Martha Stewart "color" today and had to have it. Can't survive without it. Knew I would dwindle to nothing.
Worked in the garden a bit today, moved the brick and concrete stand I had for the grill. Pulled them up yesterday and planted the ground orchid and turbochina. Those things had to be moved today, so got that done.
Derek, there will be no pixs of my fat ummmm, whatever on the bike. Even in the dark.
I rather like riding at dawn. Everything somehow feels refreshed and clean. I see some of the most wonderful birds and wild life. The sound of a sandhill crane as it flies overhead, a flock of ibis, herons, ducks, owls, squirrels. Just an amazing freshness and quietness.
