Different Strokes February 2013
WELCOME TO THE FEBRUARY DIFFERENT STROKES CHALLENGE
If you would like to host a Different Strokes, please see the Schedule thread here
Please read the guidelines below carefully.
GUIDELINES:
On the first of each month a reference photo (or photos) will be posted in a thread entitled "Different Strokes".
Artwork can be any size on any surface but MUST be acrylic.
Each member interested in taking the challenge will create a painting using the chosen reference(s) (whole or cropped)
and on the 20th of each month participants will upload their interpretation of the reference for discussion within this thread, finished or not.
Be as inventive, creative and different as you wish!
PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORK TO THE THREAD BEFORE THE 20TH OF THE MONTH.**
At the end of the month the thread /discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.
**Please note, the single 'reveal' date is chosen so that we do not influence each other with our individual interpretations ......
that's the whole point of it being called 'Different Strokes'!
By all means ask questions in the thread or initiate discussion about the challenge - just don't post images!!!
I have selected an image of a sunset over water and for some the challenge may be to get a realistic effect of the sky colour reflected in the surf. Any way have fun with this and remember it is only colour. You can be realistic, you can do abstract, you can be expressionistic, or whatever takes your fancy just use acrylics.
Here is the link to the original image in the RIL

That's got to be one of the best photo's I've ever seen of that location.

Re: Different Strokes February 2013
I have sat myself down this morning to have an attempt at this. If it doesn't work I will call it "Abstract With Lump in Middle".

Re: Different Strokes February 2013
Thank you, Maureen.
Well after a couple of hours I can safely declare that I have managed the 'lump' in the middle. Now onto those clouds and then the dreaded reflections.

Re: Different Strokes February 2013
Just started mine last night, the 18th. What the heck...I figure it'll either be a mess or a masterpiece. Messterpiece?
A beautiful pic! I haven't done any seascapes recently. So far, working with the cotton-candy tones has been a challenge.
