Pink Rose Bud WIP
I am nearing the finished stage on this rose painting for the January Plant Parade. I posted it in the thread even though I'm not sure it's finished. Before I sign a painting and declare it finished, I let it set for a while, let it 'rest'. That's where I am with this painting, 16 x 20 on Aquabord using DS and Golden paints.
May I say that I will never again use acrylic on Aquabord despite Ampersand saying it can be done. I really found it a challenge getting the paint to go on smoothly. In the first couple layers, every brush stroke showed. It's gessoed surfaces for me from now on.
I'd like your feedback on this piece, so please let me know what you think.
Thanks for looking!

Pretty, looks like sunlight is touching the tips of the petals.

Re: Pink Rose Bud WIP
Judy, it really depends just how far you want to take the rose.
The form and colour are both very good.
If you do want to develop it more I'd suggest smoother blending on the outer petals - you'll have enough layers to do that now and some gentle darker blending of the top pink petal as it moves down to the bowl of the bud.
The other thing I'd suggest is to take some of the vibrancy out of the sepals - they catch the eye at present and you relly want the viewer to concentrate on the bud.

Thank you Susan, April Joy, Kathie, Bhavani, Maureen and Gayle for your comments and encouragement. I really appreciate your taking the time to view my painting and to comment.
Thank you Maureen for your very constructive suggestions to improve my rose. I've been working today to follow up on them and will post an update when I have accomplished them.

Re: Pink Rose Bud WIP
I finally have an update on my rose. Please give me any feedback you'd care to make. I worked on smoothing out my transitions, tweaking shadows and highlights, giving the petals a bit more shaping and tweaking the leaves and background. I found that using Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid was a godsend. It really helped with smoothing transitions. What do you think now?
All C&C welcome! Thanks for looking!

Love how you were able to subtly change the painting and really enhance it. I have never tried glazing liquid but something you did there was absolutely right for the painting.

Thank you Colin and Kathy for looking and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.
Colin, if you haven't used Golden acrylic glazing liquid, I urge you to try it. It made all the difference in this painting. I've used another brand, but it didn't offer the extended drying and working time that was the solution here.
