Steak on a Stake

"Steak on a Stake"
9 x 12
I painted this during a local street festival last October. It was so crowded that I had to walk around at points just to get a good look at my subject. It was a ton of fun and the owners of the food truck treated me great. They gave me and my wife lunch and even purchased the painting.

Re: Steak on a Stake

Wonderful painting of a fun subject. I like rural scenes as much as the next guy but I was struck by this painting on your blog. It must take a great deal of confidence to paint a subject like this in a crowd. Even if they are polite about it, most folks are art critics. Gary

Super painting. Love the colors and energy. Congrats, too, on the sale. That's always a nice result.

Re: Steak on a Stake

Love the colors. I see why they bought it. Congrats! Tried to do the same at a farmers market. Found my tent of interest; only too early. 1/2 hour into the painting. 6 tents filled the space between.

I love everything about this high-energy painting -- the style, texture, color and overall feel.

Wow... what a colorful painting. You are a master at including just enough information in your composition--a skill that I am still working on when painting plein air.

Re: Steak on a Stake

Thank you Kathleen! I would suggest using the biggest brush you feel you can get away with. Sometimes I pick out a brush I think would be perfect and then put it down and grab the next bigger size just to make it hard to over detail. I appreciate your comments.

Re: Steak on a Stake

Thank you for the response. Using a bigger brush does seem like a great way to keep my detail-oriented mind from getting in the way of the abstract shapes I'm trying to form on the canvas!
