Muffler Man
"Muffler Man"
8 x 16
I drive by this everyday and I design signs for a living, so it was just a matter of time before I chose a subject like this. The painting was difficult because I had to stand very close to a major road with cars rushing by to get this view. I think it was worth it, but I'm in no hurry to do that again.
Bonus, how often do you plein air paint and get to paint the face of Mad Magazines Alfred E. Neumen?

Re: Muffler Man
Interesting Painting. One loss to mass marketing and chains are unique and unusual signs.
I really enjoyed your blog as well.

Re: Muffler Man
Good job on this one. You took a snapshot of modern life in this sunny midday painting. I know what you mean about driving by certain landmarks and waiting/wanting to paint them. I haven't graduated to painting high traffic areas yet... I would imagine that it would be nerve wracking, distracting, and frustrating to be so near to all those vehicles.

Re: Muffler Man
Kudos to you Randy - I also see things I want to paint in heavily populated areas but don't have the patience to do it. Love the work on your blog - particularly Texas sunset. Nice work.

Re: Muffler Man
Yep! It was worth it. Of course, that's easy for me to say, isn't it, since I wasn't standing out there in the traffic! I also enjoy your paintings on your blog. You have such glorious colors in those paintings of tractors and trucks.
Thanks for posting!

Re: Muffler Man
Hey Randy,
This is neat. Nicely done, and fits the vertical format perfectly. Must be kind of scary seeing a huge Alfred E. Neumen staring at you on a daily basis.
Cheers,
Randy

Re: Muffler Man
Thanks Larry & Randy! I got to use some cad. yellow lt straight from the tube in the highlights & you don't get that chance often.
Randy, I hardly look at his face anymore. My eyes are always drawn to those really long feet that I noticed while painting. lol
