Re: Bouguereau's - "The Harvester"

Started playing with the glazes so I thought I would put an update in...

Still have a ways to go. I have worked the shirt to lighten as it was a little bluer than I had wanted. I think when the sky is glazed that the shirt will not look so blue.

I do not have near the detail the original has. This will be my 25th painting when it is finished ... and I need a lot more practice

Happy Painting
Joy

Thanks Becca,

I see all the detail I am missing in my painting.. and think... how do I paint that????

The original is such a wonderful painting...

Re: Bouguereau's - "The Harvester"

Very few will notice those details, I'm convinced. Get what you can right, and enjoy what you did. I'm sure this was not Bogey's 25th painting!

I think it looks amazing and that you have so much nuance in this, very skilled looking to me.

If I didn't learn anything and surprise myself when I paint, I don't think I could have been bothered doing it...

Joy, everything is right on target, but I will ask you to recheck her left elbow. The bend of it is difficult, and I had to check mine often. You are going to have a masterpiece here when you finish!

Re: Bouguereau's - "The Harvester"

Looking good so far JoyCF ,but you will have to "melt" somehow the transitions of the tones (shadows ,halftones) because Bougureau ,even in this stage ( he never used grisaille ) made a perfect tone to tone work ,so the transitions where very very smooth .
Your copy looks very sculptural ,very good thing, but not in a classical or neoclassical style.

Re: Bouguereau's - "The Harvester"

I think a semiopaque glaze will unify all the volumes .It could be a skin tone ,if you are starting glazing anyway
Good job!
