Two Cats and a Dog

This is a pet family portrait commission for a Christmas gift. Prisma colored pencils on Canson paper, about 8" x 10". It's basically finished but I would like some helpful extra eyes please. I'm not happy with the way the tabby cat's head sits on the body but I don't know how to fix it....something about the throat. All of there whiskers aren't great either. Any constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Two Cats and a Dog

I love the composition and I think the whiskers look great. I have three dogs, one is gone now and the other two are old, black, white and red/black poms.. I would love to do a piece with all three in it.

Perhaps some shading for depth would help with the left side of the tabby. There are several artists on here that do a lot of cats and dogs wonderfully, you might ask them if you have doubts, but I think it is a marvelous piece!

I really like this. It has an illustrative quality about it, rather than realism, which is what appeals to me. If this is a commission then they might want a more realist approach, but I would love someone to do my cats in this style

I think this is super! If the tabby cat is the one on our right....I think it looks just fine!

Don't see any problems with this except the yellowish orange area centre front which tends to drag my eyes away from the magic of the trio. For what it's worth, maybe soften or subdue it a bit. Nice job with the creatures great & small.

Good piece but-----what I see about the Tabby is he needs more shoulder on the left side. Even if it is not in the reference, it would make a better composition. Tabby and doggie are "kissing all the way down." Can you fix that.?

Re: Two Cats and a Dog

Thank you all for your help. I didn't get everything corrected but I'm posting the final version. I mailed it just a few days after posting so the client could give it as a Christmas gift. She said it was a big hit.
