WDE 8 Sept. Aspen Run

14.5x10.5 watercolor on gessoed matboard done this afternoon from one of my New Mexico photos of the row of aspens glistening gold in the morning sun. I've exaggerated the background adding more darks as if there were green foliage behind. A highway was in between that and the trees so I have made that more blue as if it was water. Not as many red leaves were there in real life either. Total time 2 hours. It was drawn with Koh-i-Noor Magic pencils. I'm not a landscape painter and detest doing trees but am trying to do more and am pleased sort of with this one.
C&C welcome

All the reason to be pleased Kay, this is beautiful! And you have all the right to make the painting your scene and not a copy of what is actually there. Isn't that liberating for us artists?

Cheers! and thanks so much for hosting. I was supposed to post mine but the image didn't register. Will try again later.

I also saved this ref so I might do it at a later time.

This is lovely... really miss the fall foliage and crisp air.... didn't know you could use gessoed board for watercolor as well... although that is one medium I haven't tried except for water-color crayons... Love the glow hope mine will be as inviting...

EP, Chester is up a tree in hiding.

Lovely trees, Kay. Reminds me of our fall trees all over New England, every year a surprise and delight for the riot of color. Like the blue in the background. Thanks for hostessing this week.

Re: WDE 8 Sept. Aspen Run

Thanks everybody! I'm not sure if aspens are in the birch family but have heard these trees called birches before. Maybe someone knows?

this is gorgeous Kaye, I also had a go at this (not being a landscape painter either) but loved the glow of the leaves.
