Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
I've never had a cell phone. How much would it be for the iPhone and monthly service ? It can't be that bad. Mind you, my land line is about 42 smackers a month.

I have a cell phone It's rarely on though. Oh, I was down in Cape May over the weekend trying to catch up with a friend while we were there. My phone was on and she decides to text me. Well I get the text and spend 10 mins trying to reply and send it out, the hubby says why didn't you use the key board? It was the first time i had bothered to text and i totally forgot about the keyboard on it.
Text......I'd much rather talk......

Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
Hi Everyone, thought I might just look in from Oz.... I see some familiar faces in here...
Hi Noods, Mum, Patti Shirl, Kathie and Suz Carol
Gidday Raymo ya Yobbo....
I was reading your comments on Bananas, like you I hate over ripe bananas.. You may not realize that you can keep bananas in the fridge to slow the ripening... Its the cold coming in contact with the skin that causes them to go black...
Just wrap well in newspaper, and then towel or teatowel, to protect skins from cold, you can keep longer..
When "Noah" was a boy I was married to a Banana Farmer, a 16 acre plantation was our livelihood.
Oh and on the subject of cell phones, (we call them mobiles) I agree completely.. I hate phones period, have to have a mobile for work, but damned if Im going to dance a tune to them... Both my mobile and house phone get answered when I feel like it..
Good to meet you all

Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
Morning all. A beautiful crisp day here in Bavaria . My last few days before I return to Hamburg on Sunday. Said goodbye to the ducks on the pond, my various four-legged friends (know them all by name - haven't a clue what their owners are called). It was a sad morning walk. I hate goodbyes but at least I know I will be back in March next year for good.
Cell phones, Mobiles. I have a HANDY as they are called here in Germany. I only use it for emergencies. Always forget to turn it on and end up with several SMS messages that are about three weeks old. I would turn it on all the time if I knew Raymo was on the other end. I am sure Noodles would take hers out of the drawer too.
Carol, that is really funny. Easier to send an SMS from your PC. I hate fiddling with that little keyboard on my handy.
Spence, thanks for information about American Football. Haven't got a clue except for the few bits I have seen on CNN where huge alien looking creatures with massive shoulders bash into each other.
Hi there Meggs. Nice to have you with us all the way from Brisbane. We are a cosmopolitan lot aren't we? I shove bananas into the fridge as well but have never wrapped them up. Good tip.
Kathie, hope you are feeling better.
Hugs for my pal, Elaine.
Hi Howard. Take care. Don't push yourself too much.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
Hi Chammi nice to meet you... It Spring here and everywhere the water birds are building nests.... One set of native ducks have already produced 12 ducklings, they take them for a walk every afternoon. I simply cant get over how fast they grow..
Unfortunately the snakes are on the move to... saw 2 today in 5 minutes swimming across the canal... one not venomous the other extremely so. Most snakes are shy and will keep out of your way, but in breeding season the Browns will chase and attack..The weather is glorious, not to hot and still a night air chill... we could do with some Spring rains though to set the growing season off.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
Morning Everyone,
Ahh Howard cool pics, love the little guy and the girls are smart laying in the sun I should go follow suit..haha Have a good day and hope opening day goes well.
Cell phone..well I was talking to Lori last night and mentioned I needed a new charge cord..apparently not seems my phone went to Jordan and I got dropped..haha not that I care much but was funny when she said 'oh did I forget to tell you'..ah yeah.
Carol I never did get the texting thing, I watch the kids and they are talking in real time and texting like speed demons, thumbs a flyin, can't say I don't find that kind of rude tho, I'd rather just talk on the phone or Skype now that's fun and free.
Raymo course I'd be calling you however since you probably wouldn't be handing out your number I'd be using the ole can and string, long string thang...
Hi Chammi sorry still have to sit and type an email, lots to do of late and I'm rather brain dead..haha Glad ya got to say your goodbyes, yeah I know I hate them too.
Meryl hey girl nice to have you joining in. Never knew that trick with the bananas will have to try that. Seems from what we get round here the banana is still the only fruit that actually tastes like it's suppose to, most of the others are tasteless and don't age just become petifried, I had cut an apple once for Jess, she forgot it and it kind of stayed unnoticed for more then a few days, when I did um find it the thing hadn't browned at all and out of curiousity I put it in a bowl and left it out, a week later it was still the same not a brown spot or odor to it, kind of made me think shouldn't have been eating it in the first place...haha Fruit n produce has been seriously sad and tasteless and gone up in price...LOL
Morning Shirl, Maureen, Rick, Spencer, Ruthie, Sue, Mary, Patti, Kathie all the gang.
Now to grab another cup of coffee answer some emails then sure I'll be back later to see what you all are up to. Little reorganizing in between just painted the spare bedroom now to make it look like a bedroom..haha
Have a great day everyone.
Hugs all round,
Elaine

Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
Hi Noods.. hate to tell you this kiddo but what your tasting isnt really a banana either... true banana taste only comes from ripening on the stool. Not sure what the go is now, but back then, bananas were cut when they were green green... packet in boxes that had been layered in newspaper, dipped in a fungicide and then shipped. Most headed to cold storage before they hit the market.
We have the same problem over here with stone fruit.. You can buy a lovely pack of nectarines or peaches, hard as nails... they rot before they ripen enough to eat. Between screwing around with seed stock (pest and fungus resistant) and modern packing and shipping procedures... what we get to eat these days as far as flavour is cardboard... but our tastebuds dont know the difference anymore

Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
Hi Meggs, welcome to the dark side. I've been trying to explain that bit about putting bananas in the fridge for ages. They can rarely be convinced, even when you assure them that the peel turning black doesn't affect the fruit inside. I think cold bananas taste better too.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
I cut the skinless bananas and toss in citrus juice and freeze. Need a quick pick me up and they are banana sorbet. Easy and not messy.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe September 2012
Well my taste buds can tell the difference and I can tell you the fruit we buy today is a total failure. I prefer eating something ripe and juicy not hard as a rock... so I just quit buying peaches, plums etc. Why buy it, wait for it to ripen and then throw it away because it is rotten? Been there, done that to many times. I think we need to go back to fruit stands a FRESH from the tree. At least we can get nice fresh strawberries and oranges here in Florida during the proper season.... and I don't want them shipped in from California when we have our own. On the other hand if they don't stop cutting down the orange groves we may not have them for long.
Had to stop working outside this morning... got stung by a wasp. Took a benadryl, then took a shower to clean up and now I'm relaxing with my online friends.
