It is beautiful and has a lovely soft feel to it.
And I like its delicacy very much.

In agreement with everyone here, the colours are fantastic, and work well to give the phoenix its cool yet fiery character. Great details, too. Thanks for posting here as well.

Thanks again for your kind words everyone - I am honoured.
If you are curious about how I got the textures in this piece, I am attaching the canvas right at the start of the process.
My process for this piece went like this:
I felt like orange.
I gessoed the canvas with white gesso.
I then covered it with a layer of undiluted full bodied white acrylic paint mixed with red and orange to make the canvas a very light orange.
Had a memory of looking at a ball of yarn with these colours and they reminded me of a phoenix and I knew that I needed to paint a phoenix.
Then the fun part: I got out a squirt bottle and squirted the canvas till it was wet but not pooling
Then I got my golden fluid acrylics and just squirted them all over the place. (I had to mix the purple special - everything else was out of the bottle.)
Then I got my old painting sock and squashed it around a little till I was finished playing - got paint all over one of my favorite sun dresses.
The textures came from working fast in wet on wet with fluid acrylics and using a sock in all different squashed up ways.
Took me a while to find the phoenix in the initial painting - can you see her?

This is a lovely painting, the colors are so vibrant, and it was great seeing your technique for arriving at the final piece!

This kicks ass!
I know what it is now.. it's the sock! You also used your sock on the serpent spiral, and that's my other favourite
Damn, I've been trying to do something a little like this in another piece, but after a half dozen attempts it's on the backburner again.. I need a sock brush in photoshop, that's gotta be the secret!
I'm thinking maybe a slight bit more colour in the face and beak (without losing the detail)? Can't quite pinpoint it, but my eyes are very strongly drawn to that area, and the details are great, I just feel like he deserves more colour there too
