Re: Warm & Cool.
Very nice subtle variations in the skin tones! But it would make the face "turn" and look more dimensional if you just soften the edge of the face a little where it touches the background. Beautiful portrait!

Re: Warm & Cool.
Hi Becca, she is a local art student who sat for us during the summer brake before going back to university. I’m afraid I fiddled with it to much when I got it home and lost a lot of the feeling trying to smooth the face and some how also aged her
Thanks for the critique Biblioscape, The background was originally light so the face edge was not so defined, that was before I started fiddling. Apart from repainting the background is there some way of softening that edge and still keep the feeling of smooth skin?
 Dave

Re: Warm & Cool.
Dave, thanks for the background about your painting...she does look beautiful here, though, I understand too how I feel at times after working with a painting more than I wished I had.

Re: Warm & Cool.
Thanks for looking in Sascha.
In lots of ways I like to experiment with these paintings Becca and don’t really mind if they turn out badly as long as I learn something from them.
Hi Bethany, I posted it more as a joke than anything as I had replied to another thread on this forum with the same title
Cheers Carol, thanks for looking in.

Re: Warm & Cool.
Really nice painting, Dave! I think neck is slightly wide, but face and background looks gorgeous!

this is truely the right approach..at least it is mine, I think mine are all experiments...with varying degrees of success...if that element weren't there, I wouldn't be so tempted to paint them.

Re: Warm & Cool.
Hi Alex, thinking warm and cool helps with the colour but as you point out does nothing for the drawing
Yes if I ever managed to paint something I was satisfied with I would probably give up Becca, at the moment it looks like I’ll be painting for a while
Thanks Greg, I think what people like about this painting is the lovely model.
Thank you all for looking in, Dave

I wish I was less tentative sometimes.

The title sucked me in
It would have been interesting to see the original before you adjusted it.
I think you did a good job regardless.

Re: Warm & Cool.
No problem, just say she is a preraphaelite babe, they had some necks that were thicker and longer that hers
I like the 10YR-5-7 highlight passages next to the 2.5 RP-2-3 shades!
