Sea Sketch

18 x 24 inch acrylic on canvas. A sketch that I did the other day using just black, white and interference colours. Using painting knives, fingers, rags and credit card bits, no brushes. I like doing stuff like this to get the feeling of a place.

Re: Sea Sketch

I really dig this! What I am starting to really love about painting and painting abstractly is the limitless possibilities for tools, methods etc.

You would probably get some good replies in the landscape forum with this piece as well.

Re: Sea Sketch

This reminds me of a place recently visited on the coast of France between Pornic and Noirmoutier. I really like the atmosphere you've built. Was this painted from life? If so, where?

Re: Sea Sketch

Love your painting! It is so encouraging for me to keep trying with my credit card art. I never painted before in my life untill 5 months after a stroke in 2010. I have no formal art training and suspect I won't as I
will be 80 my next Bday. Great job. Onehanded

Re: Sea Sketch

Thank you everyone for your positive comments! I really didn't expect you guys to go for this. This is the style that I painted in pre-abstract and still do occasionally to get the feel of a place into my head.

This was done from life, east coast of Scotland, near Macduff going towards Pennan.

Onehanded, you are an inspiration to everyone to be so keen to push onwards after such a setback. Good for you, and I sincerely wish you well in your exploration of abstract art. The best advice that I can give is to enjoy yourself, play and if you like what you have created, that is all that matters. Be gentle with yourself.

Re: Sea Sketch

Really liked the colors and how they blend. I also liked the fact that you didn't used brush. The result is so cool.
Thanks for sharing

Re: Sea Sketch

Thank you both! I do tend to use my fingers to paint and anything else within arm's reach.

Re: Sea Sketch

A nice, soothing piece--well done! My eyes are drawn to the clouds in the upper left. Seems outta place for me, or takes away from everything else. Just my MHO of course as I tend to avoid landscape paintings in the first place, haha.

Re: Sea Sketch

Thank you Cory! I was just putting things down as they were on the day, as its not meant to be a finished piece, I think it will stay as it is. It's sort of like taking notes for me.
