You're living rich! I just have a basic prepay. Oh, and this is my only phone, I don't have a land line. I guess you can tell now that I'm not really a phone guy.

Here in Portugal we say that a person who has lots of ideas is an idiot.
So here goes nothing :-)

What about going to your cell phone retailer and propose the following: They borrow you a demo smartphone and you place a small advertisement. Something like "Mobile communication with courtesy of Bla Bla Bla."

I'm finding those prices very high for USA. Here in Portugal we've always paid too much for communications when compared to other countries. Nowadays I don't know.

Well that's definitely not the case in the US! My current basic phone only makes phone calls. I have limited minutes and limited texting. It has no internet/3G data service and it's $42/mo (34 Euro). I've looked for smartphone plans and the best price I can find, with many limitations, is about $90/mo (73 Euro). Then add taxes, fees, taxes on the fees, fees on the taxes, and it's over $100/mo. If I want unlimited minutes/data, etc, it can top $150/mo (121 Euro)! Am I wrong? Anyone here in the US have a smartphone with a monthly fee lower than that?

Re: How do you accept live payments?

Why don't you buy an unlocked cell phone and use skype?
Just an idea.
You only have to stick with a plan if you buy a cell phone with a discount from the carrier.

Yes I have a smart phone, I read and send my email on it, rarely use it for the internet and have used it with square. My cost is under $30 a month. I think my Samsung phone cost me $60..... It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it has good coverage and 3G.

If you are reading and sending email, you are using the internet!

How do you get service for only $30/mo? Who's your carrier?

Re: How do you accept live payments?

I use Square on my BF's android phone. He has a little attachment/doohickie that plugs into the phone to slide the credit card. I used it this last weekend during a studio visit. Thank God my BF was home!

Oh no! I thought the festival was Sat and Sun. It's Friday and Sat! Ugh. How am I going to get ready by tomorrow?
I guess I'll just put my art out there, credit cards or not. Better to have my work displayed and not sold than not seen at all, right?

Re: How do you accept live payments?

Do you have a tent and a display system to hang your art onto?

Fortunately I don't need one in this case. Someone else has a booth there and had a little extra room so, at the last minute, decided to share a corner. That's why it was such short notice.

That is great, I hope you sell all that you bring, good luck.

Re: How do you accept live payments?

Interesting to read all the ways that one can process a sales transaction. Curious, if I were the buyer, how is my credit card information safe while it is travelling through wireless airwaves? As the seller, am I doing due diligence on behalf of my customer to safeguard their information while it is travelling through to Square or PayPal? Or, am I fretting about nothing?
