A Single Blade of Grass

First of all this is still a work in progress, almost finished but I feel the need to keep tweaking it as I am not getting the results that I like.

I took the plunge and bought some Mi-Teintes pastel paper. It is totally different than what I am used to and I am not entirely pleased with it, although it is not that bad.... I find I can't get the details that I am used to getting because the tooth fills up faster than I am used to and I can't get as many layers and of course with the colored paper the whites are not as white as I would like. But I have it and will keep practicing with it.

I thought that we could all learn a lesson from this little kitten as he studies a single blade of grass with such interest. Life is full of simple pleasures. He is an 8 week old male kitten belonging to Rala, whom also owns the bernese mountain dog that I just did.

Thanks Rala1996 for allowing me to use your photo. http://anniecanjump.deviantart.com/f...81929#/d552w48

9x12 in. pale orange paper, done with Prismacolor pencils and white acrylic for the whiskers. I used a blender marker to smooth the background and it saved me a lot of time.

Any C&C would be appreciated.

Peggy, your dislike for the Miteintes does not show.
This is beautiful! The colours are so crisp and bright, and the detail looks very fine.
Fabulous kitty this.

Re: A Single Blade of Grass

This is wonderful! The eyes are fantastic!
Because you asked for C&C: I could imagine the nose a bit more pink, this could make a nice contrast to the green blade. Does this make sense to you?
What a cute little guy!

Re: A Single Blade of Grass

Thanks for the comments guys. I appreciate it.

Angela, I see what you mean about the nose and I will tweak it a bit more, however in person the nose does look more pink than on the computer. The whole pic looks a bit more washed out than it actually is. I am still going to try to get more details in the fur also.

Oh this is just the sweetest picture ever!... Being a cat lover and owner I am automatically drawn to this. You have done amazing work with the fur, but I have to say that the eyes are the best part of the whole piece so far... they are amazingly detailed and rich - I could look into them forever. Please keep us updated with your progress!

Re: A Single Blade of Grass

Thanks once again to everyone for looking and commenting. I have done a bit more on this little guy and am feeling a little better about it. It has been hard to get the depth that I like.
