Our artist was an Orientalist who often worked in watercolours.

Besides living in Spain and visiting Morocco he lived in El Cairo for 9 or 10 years before returning to Blighty.

Oooops, somebody boobed and I copied his error. Here it mistakenly attributes the painting to John Frederick Lewis

and my description of the artist's comings and goings describes Lewis, not Bridgman.

Ha! hardly well done, I was in such a rush posting while getting ready for work that I simply thought I had mistaken Lewis for Bridgman, and only realize now that the second work you posted is by Lewis. No, your clues led me quickly to Lewis and the 'judgementofparis' site, then with the title I looked for year, medium, etc., found Bridgman and thought I must have misread something or other at first go round. What stories we can effortlessly invent to resolve conflicting information!
