COURSE SYLLABUS
Session 1: Pre-Instructional, Choosing Your Subject, Transferring the Image to Paper, Skin Tones, and Setting up Your Palette
Reading Assignments:- Secrets to Painting Realistic Faces in Watercolor, pages 6-17, 26-31, 34-37
- Instructor Notes under Session 1 on Blackboard
Homework Assignment: Submit pre-instructional, your reference photo, drawing on the watercolor paper, and color swatch of skin tones.
Session 2: Let’s Practice and Develop a Plan
Reading Assignments:- Secrets to Painting Realistic Faces in Watercolor, pages 18-25
- Instructor Notes under Session 2 on Blackboard
Homework Assignment: Draw a line drawing of your project. Mark out where you’ll put Pebeo, stopping points, underpainting color, types of edges (sharp or glowing.) If you choose, you can work out a value study.
Session 3: Underpainting and First Layers
Reading Assignments:- Secrets to Painting Realistic Faces in Watercolor, pages 38-69

Viewing Assignment:- Drawing and Paintings Secrets (DVD)
Homework Assignment: Submit a photograph of your work.
Session 4: Finish
Continue to layer until you’ve reached the correct value. As you apply the pigment, if you find one layer is too red, tone it down in the next layer. Stay away from blues on the face unless you’re painting the male adult face as blue may appear as a five o’clock shadow on some people. Paint the hair (if long) with your board tipped so the pigment is moving. Have fun with this!
