Compatible materials

I am looking to use a commercial acrylic/latex caulk to create a special texture for a series of elements under my painting on canvas. The canvas has already been gessoed and will using artist quality acrylics for the final layers. Other available texture mediums normally recommended and use will not achieve what I wish. Anyone have experience in using acrylic caulks as a base and how compatible and long lasting can expect them to be.

Re: Compatible materials

Welcome to WC! Lots of fine folks here, you will meet some of them as you browse about.

Be careful as most caulks contain silicone. The acrylic paint may not adhere. Other materials/chemicals that prevent mold & mildew are also in caulk and are not archival.
Maybe you could create a useable gypsum/plaster paste from a powder and apply it with a cake decorating tube. No expert, just an idea.

Always glad to see new members, hope you have time to explore all the different Forums. There are all levels of artists creating, sharing, teaching and exploring in virtually all mediums. There are many tutorials available, and the friendly folks will help you with any questions.

Be sure to check out the Photography Forum, too. No camera is required! This is the place to share any of your photos and to see what is going on.

Looking forward to seeing your art, too.

Life is good

Greg

Re: Compatible materials

I used it about two years ago, it's held up well so far but I et it dry very well before painting on it.
