Guy in Chair (for lack of a better title)
Hello friends,
I had some spare time over the weekend and had just finished up my dachshund drawing, so I felt I wanted to loosen up a little and what better way than with some large paper and markers?
This piece is 10x14 inches and is drawn on a heavily textured watercolor paper. I used Faber-Castell brush pens in various shades of gray and black. I found it surprisingly easy to blend the shades to soften the markers' edges. When I put down some darks, I would go over them with a pale gray and it blended the shades very well.
It took me about four hours to draw this. I had a lot of fun drawing this as I did not use pencil to sketch it - just grabbed my markers and built the scene as I went. I was working with an old photo of a young fellow in an ornate chair.
C&C is always welcome and appreciated. Thank you so much for looking.
Some close ups to show detail. The coat and hands were the most fun of all.

This is really gorgeous. I don't know how you did it without a drawing. THat is impressive. Personally, I have to have at least a rough outline. Very well done.

Re: Guy in Chair (for lack of a better title)
Thanks so much, Kate. I appreciate the comments. I was a little afraid of drawing the chair as it was very ornate (in the drawing it has been simplified a lot), but decided to try it. Happy you like it!
Thank you very much, Tanja! I almost always draw a basic sketch too, but decided to throw caution to the wind on this one. I appreciate the comments.

Very nicely done. Tremendous detail for such a short time period.

Thanks so much, Catherine! I was kind of thinking of my bowler hat guy as I drew this one. What can I say? Bowler hats are cute.
Thank you Jim. High praise coming from you! I appreciate it.

Re: Guy in Chair (for lack of a better title)
very cool Jenna. Just one thing tho: it looks like the chair has only one arm. I know I'm nit picking here, esp given how it was created, but it just jumped out at me.
Otherwise, amazing piece.

Re: Guy in Chair (for lack of a better title)
Thanks so much, Linda! I can see what you mean, however there was no other armrest showing in the reference image. The fellow was sitting forward and at an angle in the chair, so the armrest was hidden behind him. Thanks so much for the comments and thoughts. I appreciate it.
Thank you much, John. Oh yes, they're the best! I'm a huge fan of them.
