Dinghies
Hey Folks,
I don't get over here much, but this one suits this forum more so than in "landscapes". This is a 24x24" I just finished yesterday. I painted a small version of this on location back in January and used it along with photo references to complete this painting. My original filed study was a square, so I decided to keep the format for the larger work. It's a little different than the usual rectangular format, but I think it works. Trying some different things in my approach by laying the paint on thicker and blending less, making the transitions occur by using color notes instead of blending the edges (except in the water). The water was very calm so I did have to blend more there to capture that feel.
Thanks for looking. C&C always welcomed.
Randy

Re: Dinghies
Beautiful piece Randy, any thoughts on strengthening the floating dinghy's line formed by the starboard bottom that sort of connects the dock shadow and ropes? It seems like a great compositional element.

Lovely, Randy. You have produced a very nice piece of work here. I just love the boat on the left in the water. This picture would grace the wall of someone's house beautifully! Well done. Ady

Re: Dinghies
Thanks Brian. After living with it a few days, I think I need to strengthen the shadows within the reflection of the stern ropes in the water. I need to repaint the railing reflection in the water on the left as well. Looks too choppy compared to the rest of the water areas. Thanks for the input.
Thanks a lot, Marty!
Thank you very much, Ady!

Re: Dinghies
I always admire your work, this one included. The pier, the colors, very nice. The only thing that bothers me about it is it looks like the boat is sitting on top of a hard, shiny surface. The water looks too still. Just my humble opinion.

Re: Dinghies
Thank you, Cremo!!
Thanks a lot Randall! I really appreciate the kind words.
Thank you, Cem! The water was incredibly still that morning and it was one of things I found appealing about the scene. I've given it more ripple than was really there. Still one should look beyond what was there for what works, so I do appreciate the input.
Thank you, Slasher!
Thank you, Rizzok72!

Awesome work Randy. Your choice of colors work, and the reflections are spot-on perfect!

Re: Dinghies
Hi Randy,
Wow! This is excellent work Randy. You've caught the scene well in paint and also accurately portray the technical aspects of the drawing as well. At this size this must be a really nice and impressive to see in person. Very cool Randy!
