The first two pictures I tried after seeing the Brad Buttry video on Virtual pastels.

Re: Digital Pastels
These are incredibly life like! What software do you use? I love the contrast of the detail and then the loose, sketches edges

Re: Digital Pastels
Hi Elaine.
All done on photoshop with the standard chalk brush and a pastel brush supplied with the video. You then use the smudge tool and the two brushes. I just need some off time to be able to try some more. Google Brad Buttry to see examples of his work. I think the video is great. I'd like to buy the one he does on oils as well. (maybe I'll get commission for promoting him. )

Re: Digital Pastels
Hi
Thanks for the feedback. Had time to do another from an online photo.

Re: Digital Pastels
Excellent the three of them, mainly the child!
On the first one, I would desaturate a bit the color of the face: it is too orange.

Hi Eduardo.

Re: Digital Pastels
Very good!
Ahead of having a sound drawing foundation, these portraits have the freshness of an oil portrait, due to the type of the brushwork.

I'm wondering this myself. Could we get some clarification as to whether these are paint-overs or freehand?

Re: Digital Pastels
They are. I never said they werent. I have used the method from Brad Buttry video as stated in my opening post. There is a sub forum for free hand digital painting. This is one that I did recently that involves much more than just painting over.
