Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Hi all,

I hate having people watch me draw or paint (when I am doing it privately in my sketch book). I always shut it when curious groups arrive, smile nicely at them and wish them a nice day. As soon as they are gone I carry on with the sketch. I do sketch things for my students during classes but somehow that is different, more a demo and not so personal.

It cooled down a little last night so slept in the altogether with my windows wide open. Fortunately I am on the third floor and the there is insect netting over the aperture so was not disturbed by the dreaded hummmmm!
Today is going to be another stinker. I'll take a cycle ride down to my little dog's grave and water the flowers. Always shed a tear or two there but also take time to remember all the fun I had with her.

Susan, now that is a good idea. You can promote yourself without having the irritation of someone watching you paint. Hats off to you girl.

Ray, it is so good to have you back with your funny comments and great sense of humour. Really have missed you . Huge hug.

Kathy. Great that you are enjoying the gallery so much. Very innovative of you to get the whole thing going.

Howard, you are amazing doing those long walks every day. Keep well.

Nice to have you back and catch up with all your news Janet. Definitely not too long a post. Wow, that must have taken all the control in the world to cope with the puppy chewing up expensive prescription sunglasses. Sounds like you are having a very busy time with the new member of the family. It seems young Shea is a bit of an eating machine. Wow, that is a lot of weight in a short time. I do hope the headaches are a little better. Sorry for making it worse. !!

Well , off to get my bike from the cellar and when I get back, I will be painting a gift for a friend. It is a landscape in pen and wash - a special place she visits every year.

Chat later.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Re the bird responses: I suspect we need to consider the origins of the term birdbrains as applied to those who are cognitively deficient .....

Chammi, I was kind of caught in the middle with the temperature thing: my parents used Fahrenheit, my school taught Celcius. Bizarrely I find myself thinking in F when it's hot and C when it's cold. It probably has something to do with freezing point being in a more sensible place in degrees C!. Yesterday it was 90F (32.5C) in the shade at 3pm and sticky. Yuk. At 9 o'clock this morning it was the same in the sunshine (where my husband was washing my car for me - not my idea btw, he's just mildy masochistic ). How on earth are you coping with 50C? (Ray: 122F or thereabouts).

On heights: I find myself shaking if I stand on a ladder so really not keen on them but a couple of years ago we went on a motorcycling tour in the Himalayas and it didn't really bother me. Granted I didn't do much looking at the scenery while we were moving as I was busy keeping my eyes on the road and trying not to die (there is no such thing as paranoia on Indian roads: they really ARE all out to get you).

Mary, your sister-in-law will love it.

Janet, OUCH on the ray-bans, but puppies are so cute it's really difficult to stay angry with them.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Below is one of the many stage sets for the week here. Lots of LED lighting.

May take a nap this afternoon. Feeling a bit depleted. Yesterday was a 18 hour day.

Had a well over 200 people meet n greet.

Eating a bit more today so I can have energy for the 12 hour drive tomorrow.

Had to turn on the heat today, very chilly. Raining

Saw some very interesting planting techniques for vining plants here this year. Some new shapes in tomato cages. Hope to apply them to my veggie garden when I get home.

Was chatting with a friend and found out that he was treated with the same disrespect at the bank I left, another branch, but, the same attitude. Must be company wide.

Got paid for the design work, without any flack. Think they knew they were wrong and didn't question the amount, which is minimal.

I see a nap in the not to distant future.

Shirl, using the attachment feature works with mountain lion.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Howard, I see that trying to attach recognizes the files on my drive. However, unlike the little yellow icon insert image feature, the attachment feature doesn't want to take my photos the way the insert image feature will (or rather, would when it used to work) without having to resize the image. Also, I was of the understanding that attaching photos was discouraged because it was easier for them to lose the link as time goes by.

I wish there was someway to know if WetCanvas was actually looking into this problem. I know Yorky/Doug reported it to someone.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Hi everyone,

We're back from our trip down the southern Oregon coast. What an amazing area! Unfortunately, there was a heatwave in the inland areas while we were gone and that always draws the coastal fog in. We did get one really beautiful day and managed to get some pictures.

I'll have to catch up on all of your posts to see what you've been up to.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Beautiful scenery Rick, I could live in that lighthouse and be very happy.

Quiet day here, at last. No pressure. Sleeping and eating (just a little on the eating part). Mostly fruits and veggies.

Today has been a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and very little heat.

The rest has been very good for me.

Having a few printer issues. Ordered a print head cleaner today to see if that will be any help. Hope so, the portable printers are expensive. I had hoped to get a battery pack for it but if it needs to be replaced, then that will have to wait.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

That lighthouse does look pretty Idyl-lic now that you mention it, Howard. I'll have to warn you though that it's in the Tsunami hazard area and the fault off the Oregon coast is about due for an earthquake of Japan-like proportions. Might want to sleep on the top floor.

Glad to hear that you were able to get some payment for the unauthorized use of your artwork. The amount may not have been much, but the principle of the thing is important.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

I didn't want to gouge anyone with pricing. I charged for two hours of work which was quite sufficient.

Just hooked up the trailer in preparation for tomorrow morning. Will be leaving early in the morning so I can get to Massachusetts around dark. It's easily a 12 Hour drive, give or take an hour. It all depends on the traffic and how willing I am to go the speed limit which these days is questionable.

Hooking up tonight means really get away tomorrow.

I am hoping that the ordered printhead cleaner is going to work. Anybody with any experience in that area, with some advice, would be appreciated.

Computer will be put up in a few minutes, only the iPad until I get to MA. Since I drive, it means no communications for a while. So, we shall see what happens.

Hi Janet...we all do long posts from time to time, to catch up. Your puppy sounds adorable, and I have to admit, it re-inforces all the reasons I don't want another animal at this time...lol. Can relate to the migraines...soooo well!!

Chammi...funny how that works, with sometimes being ok to be watched...I think it might be our mindset fromt the get-go? Have a safe ride, and enjoy painting!!

Marianne...birdbrains...lolol!!

Howard, glad you got some rest, and got paid!! Yay!! Be safe!!

Rick, beautiful shots...wow!! Not sure I want to live where there even COULD be tsunami's...let alone near a fault line...sigh!! I prefer my earth to be as stable as possible, and my bed dry...lolol.
