Watched it, figured it out, was quite surprised and amazed. One of many very nice touches. Really liked the idea of the construction workers being there for the entrance of the flame. They are rarely recognized.

I was impressed by the production. It was quite a story and at the same time history and culture lesson. Well done in my humble opinion. A lot of content.

Had a homeless person break into an abandoned house around the corner. Guess neighbors called authorities and they were arrested. there are many abandoned homes in the area, crying shame watching good houses deteriorate.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Morning everybody,

We had an almighty storm last night. Haven't heard a downpour like that in a long time. It just seemed to get louder and louder. Fortunately no storm damage in our small town but further up in Bavaria - lots of flooded cellars and garages. What a drag - sorting out all that soggy mess.

I am enjoying the Olympics and am sometimes torn between South Africa and Germany. Hats off to the South Africans for winning the rowing fours and a gold in the swimming. Michael Phelps is a phenomenal swimmer. Love watching him. Also seems a friendly pleasant fellow.

Howard, how very sad that there are unlived in homes in your corner of the world. Has it to do with financial problems? Unable to pay back mortgages or something? Do the banks then take ownership and try to sell the properties? Just curious to know how this has come to be. There is nothing sadder than an unlived in house.

We are off to Austria tomorrow and will be spending a week there hiking and I shall really enjoy the bovine community. Will be taking my sketchbook and camera and hoping for good weather. We have booked into a delightful small family hotel with geraniums spilling from wooden balconies and window boxes. Just hope there is no flooding in the Lech Valley where we will be. Austria has had some bad mud slides damaging homes, cars and even causing death. I will be offline for the next week but will catch up when I get back.

Chat later today.

Mary, congratulations!
Chammi, I wish you a wonderful time in Austria! Here in Berlin we had some heavy rainpours yesterday, and this morning as well. Got wet even with a big umbrella.
I am also quite impressed with the olympic athletes. I've never been any good at sports, although I love to walk, but that's all. And I like the atmosphere in London.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Loving the Olympics, but it goes until 12am (midnight) and now I'm tired as all get out here at work. Pouring rain and lightning all around right now.

Finally got to paint again for a bit. Still working on Chammi's Farm as I'm calling it. Eventually I'll get a good photo of it and post it in the WOYE thread.

Busy night tonight with a friend's birthday to celebrate. Hopefully I'll get to paint some more tomorrow.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe August 2012

Sorry to not be posting, been peeking....worked in the yard yesterday...still a bit grumpy, as no car for another weekend. Thought I had plans, but I guess not....sigh....maybe I was not supposed to go to the festival, or anything. I will have to get creative with meals, as I am out of quite a few things....lol and I really don't like to cook!

Tried to work on a portrait, but apparently am not supposed to do it now...had been gonna paint a mountain, and I think I may just gesso it and go back to the mountain....lol. Have two sketches, lovely women, just no resemblance to the person I was trying to draw; I will save them for sometime when I need a face....lolol

Howard, be careful out there on the road!! Hope everyone who enjoys the Olympics is having a good time watching them. Later all!!

DVR the last hour and go to bed at 11, that's what I do. I've really enjoyed the games so far....as long as we spank the Germans and South Afrikkaners, I'm good to go. Spank it !

OH Raymo, now you're really asking for trouble - wait til our Chammi reads that!!!!

This morning I got changed to do dirty outside work - pressure washing - but the rain started so I was happy to watch the rowing - brilliant!

Do wish I could take some credit for the staging of all this but sadly, I'm just a watcher too ...... we did have some of the football in St. James's Park (Newcastle United's ground) - and we're 300 miles from London!

Have a good weekend all
