Hello all! I have been out of sorts lately but I hope this commitment will whip me back into line and get drawing again!
For those of you just joining us, this is a monthly challenge that ANYONE can participate in. You can submit your work anytime after the 20th of the month up to the end of the month. I'll try to get a gallery including everyone's close to the last day. Check out the rest of the guidelines
here.
I love hosting this, and when I am out and about with my camera, I am thinking about capturing new photos for upcoming challenges.
I have a membership at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens so I spend a ton of time there with my 2 year old son. I am quite snap-happy with the camera! My zoom lens decided it didn't want to work anymore so it might be a while before I get a good batch again since most of the animals are far away and caged.
Hope this month delights you as much as it did me!
Please click on the links below to access the larger size images. I have yet to get uploader to work consistently enough for so I am using an offsite Flickr account to make sure you have access to large enough images.
Turtlelog by

I swear this guy was posing just for me! I love turtles and there were a bunch sunning on the log in the Florida sun.
Pelican by

This guy has such a graceful curve going on. My Mom was a huge fan of pelicans. She'd start to get cute and in a high pitched voice go, "Oh! Pellies!"

I will always have a soft spot for them thanks to Mom.
Lucycat by

This is my namesake, Lucy the Tortoiseshell cat. (My real name is Jessica, but my login name is Lucylove...that's her!). She is super lovey for a cat, though she has some serious pica (eating non-food items) when it comes to my artwork. Not a good combo!
Leopard by

This guy is one of a pair at the Jacksonville Zoo. I hate to see him in his cage but try to zoom past it so you can enjoy the beauty without the bars.
Ducks by

I see you... Snoozing in a trio of three. Their prettier male counterparts were out and about. I guess ladies day is a little different in the duck world.
Butterfly by

There is a butterfly exhibit going on right now at the Jax Zoo. The butterflies are absolutely gorgeous. They have it all summer with a huge screened in enclosure and a ton of fairies on exhibits, too. I could see myself as a little girl again just being completely enamored.

This time I think the cage works. It makes the multi-colored background almost look like a mosaic. I wish I knew what kind of bird it was. I'll have to try to look it up next time I'm there. So cute!
Flamingo by

This guy was having a go at some serious preening. He (She?) absolutely stood out against the dark green waters. I love the curves and textures in this one. Sorry about all the birds but they are a huge part of our wildlife here in sunny Florida.
So that's it! If you have any trouble, Greg has been an absolute blessing in keeping things tidy around here. Looking forward to everyone's submissions.
