First timer

Hi everyone I have been out of the drawing/art scene for many years I doodle some here and there but I found this site specifically looking at scratchboard art and fell in love with the work I have seen here. I recently finished my first board and I am a little disappointed with it and found it difficult to fix errors and blend inks that were used to correct things.
I felt very rushed to do this piece in a short time. Person who asked acted like a month would be plenty of time for me to do something and I didn't even get the photos from them until late the first week into it. I was not happy with the photos they had either too much grey scale and some things wouldn't adjust well even using a computer. So yes this was done in about 3 weeks and my hand is killing me!!! but I learned a lot and there is more to learn and this site and the members here are extremely helpful so can't wait to learn and do more as I go.
-Seth
Oh this is a 12"X16" and some identifying stuff was whited out just to be polite. Oh and my friend took the pictures since I gave it away before thinking to do it.

Re: First timer

Hi Seth, So glad you found us. I can take upwards of several months to do a piece and I don't work large. I feel your pain and understand.

Re: First timer

I believe Pamela said it perfectly
you tackled a heck of a lot of textures that are difficult to do.
As for your hand hurting, try loosening your grip a little
KEEP SCRATCHIN'!

Re: First timer

Wow, terrific for your first one. Everyone of us has first ones, so don't fret because I don't see very much 'wrong' (if anything) with this. Keep scratching!

p.s. I do mine while I play on the computer because my reference pics are on the computer, I have everything I need in a drawer assembly I got at Michael's for only $15. It has 10 drawers, different colors, cute. I will work on my stuff only about a half hour at a time, put it down next to me, then pick it up again when I feel like doing it. Never hurt my hand. You may have to ration your time, taking lots of breaks.

Re: First timer

Seth, you look like a scratchboard natural. It won't be long before you are putting us to shame. This is great for a first board or for the 100th!

Re: First timer

Wow everyone I knew you guys were nice when reading other peoples posts but didn't really know what to expect for a response to my own. Needless to say I am very flattered by the nice comments and helpful suggestions. Thank you all. I do plan to keep scratching and definitely will try to keep a slow and steady pace and lighten my grip More to come I promise...

Re: First timer

Seth, this is wonderful! You tackled a very difficult subject for your first board and did an amazing job. Welcome, and I look forward to many more of your works.
