photographing my new still life xpost oils

Well i'm just about ready to get another still life on the go...

So since i have a new little studio area, i set it all up with the lights and was playing around with the objects.

I want it to be simple. I have been doing a couple of pears and apples so i figured continuing with that would be good practice.

anyway here i have a couple of shots. Any comments on which photo?

I am not attempting to make a really dramatic painting. I just want to work on green fruit, metal and cloth. Hence the objects in the painting.

This last one i don't want to do as it doesnt have the metal vase/cup, but i include it anyway.

I like the last one. You could also put some branches in the vase.

Re: photographing my new still life xpost oils

I have set up another version today and will take some more.

To get the lighting i need a longer cord for my lamp (don't laugh) so i have to fetch one from the shop today. I would have "drummed up" the lighting a little but i will do it properly and put the shadows in the photo.

As for the negative space and non- overlapping. I agree, however i was going for something a bit more simple i knew i lost the interest in the painting. I will at least try and set it up differently. I'm off to the supermarket today.

I obviously ate too many of my props ( the pears) leaving me with two. I will add something else in.

thanks for the advice.

As for flowers, i would have wanted some nice Cherry blossom. However i don't have any. If i find some i might do one with that.

Sarah

Hi Sarah...I like most of these...and you don't really want blossom do you? it drops so quickly...what about the leave Larry uses...not sure of the name, but it's a mid tone blue green ? eucalyptus leaves...silver dollar...I think...if you do a search you should find an image of it...Or just look at Larry's pictures!

Re: photographing my new still life xpost oils

I think the last one is the best - in the others the objects are all too similar in size. I would also suggest a different coloured cloth - a deep red perhaps, which would complement the green of the pears? Or if you could manage not to eat them, some red grapes......
