Summer Solstice...

This painting had it's own mind from the beginning, and bears little resemblance to what I thought I was going to paint...I guess it just needed to be, for whatever reason.

It is 16x20 wrapped canvas...

C&C is welcome, as I am never sure when I am done... Thank you for looking.

Re: Summer Solstice...

Thanks Bertoni!! It seemed to base itself on my loose interpretation of that; I had the trees in mind, actually, just the one...the rest just sort of happened. I have had paintings that "changed", before, but never quite like this one...

Re: Summer Solstice...

Lol Sue - I appreciate the mind made you develop the symmetry - but why is the tree holding up Stonehenge please?
Wonder if changing that central tree to make part taller than the stones and part a lot shorter might help?

You can, of course, ignore me!

Re: Summer Solstice...

Seems to be the consensus of opinion, Maureen, about the middle tree...that she seems to be serving the rocks, like a tray of drinks... guess I will have to work on that, if it will let me. So many of 'my' ideas got painted out...all I can do is try.

.... and oops! - sorry I didn't see the centre maiden as a hand maiden Susan - should have looked again
Just do, or not do, as the work dictates ......... I think I fight with mine!

Re: Summer Solstice...

I think this is great! It is what I would call Magic Realism. You have a world that looks real, but in a spellbound situation. A tree has to be magic to carry the weight of Stonehenge! The painting is very symmetric, in a magic world it might be so, but if you want to make the world more believable, you might want to add some branches to the trees so that they don't seam so symmetric, otherwise I don't think you should change it.

Re: Summer Solstice...

Thank you Ranunkel! The reason the trees have so few branches, is they are/were supposed to look like arms and heads....the center being female, and the edge ones male...I did not want to over-do the humanistic aspects, but maybe that part did not quite make it.

After an interesting evening, of Google touring Stonehenge, Woodhenge, and Durrington Walls, I added one more henge to my painting...and adjusted the leaves on the female/center tree. Also brightened the stars a bit, and tweaked a few other things, all with artistic license as to the distance of things.
