Orange Hibiscus
Really struggled to come up with such a creative title for this. Ha Ha!
This is the third in my series of four hibiscus that will be sent to the Kauai for Life Gallery in Hanalei, Kauai, Hawaii. In case you didn't know, Hanalei is where Puff the Magic Dragon once lived.
This is oil on canvas and like the previous two, is also 20" x 20".
One more to go. Either a pink one or a white one. Not sure yet.
Thanks for looking.
Ron

Re: Orange Hibiscus
Maureen - Thank you so much for your kind comments. Back in the 1960's the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary had a number one hit in the USA with a song called "Puff the Magic Dragon". Part of the first line of the song is "Puff the Magic Dragon lives by the sea........ in a land called Hanalei". Thereafter, many childrens books were written and even an animated TV series was produced about Puff. Of course all of this was in the USA so it may not have been known in Europe. I guess with the new Siocial Networks and the Internet, one just assumes that these things would be known world wide. But I am very naive about this whole computer thing and obviously took to much for granted thinking that everyone would know who Puff was. Thanks for asking!

It was know world wide, well at least in Europe and Australasia the song was a hit. I loved that song as a kid and once requested that it be played on a particular radio station that my family listened to for my birthday, it was a Sunday night I believe. I think that was 1970-71. Gosh, I am aging myself
The flower is beautiful and is tied in very nicely with the background. I love this.

Re: Orange Hibiscus
Ron,
This is another masterpiece! The dewdrops are very realistic, the background is lush and lovely, and of course the flower itself--stunning!

Re: Orange Hibiscus
Carol - Glad you liked the hibiscus and glad you were a big fan of Puff. Great memories about your birthday request.
Katherine - Thanks so much. Hanalei is on the North Shore of Kauai, the northern most island in the Hawaiian Islands. Legend says that he lived in a cave on Mt. Wainiha. I have included a photo of a painting I did of that mountain last year so you can get an idea of the lay of the land.
Jean - Thank you very much for your very encouraging comments. Glad you like the dew drops. It took me a while to figure out how to paint them.
Agnes - Glad you liked it. Thanks for the comment.

Re: Orange Hibiscus
Wow, awesome Hibiscus!!!
Yes I remember "Puff the Magic Dragon". My children were young when the song and "Puff" appeared (I'm ageing myself here!) My youngest son was only 2years old at the time, and I knitted a green "Puff" dragon toy for him, which I've kept for sentimental reasons...looks a bit moth eaten now, like me I guess!

Re: Orange Hibiscus
I don't know what I like more, the discussion about Puff or that hibiscus. Really beautiful, I love how the background is done as well, something I have been striving for in my florals.
