Re: Life

Person's left hand (our right) looks a bit off (fingers too short/foreshortening not reading well), but hard to tell if this is the because of the photo.
The flower looks a bit solid - almost as if it was made of plaster - because of this, when first looking at the photo, I was not sure if this was indeed a sculpture...

Person's right hand looks realistic.

Sorry once again I took so long to answer I have pain management issues that are just now comming under control.

If you look toward the bottom you will see the continuation of the one finger that gives it the length you are talking about. At least to me it does. I agree about the flower too. I took the picture with my PO Crap phone camera. I don't yet have a digital camera. It is black Rising Stonehenge paper.

Re: Life

Nice. The flower looks like it's made from plaster, but that doesn't detract from it.

Re: Life

I tried to fix the plaster flower and almost screwed it up. I won third place with this in my first colored pencil competition today.

Re: Life

Congrats on your award!

Thematically, I would say this is just about perfect.

I also see the flower as somewhat "solid" but don't think the overall message of the piece is affected......you could probably tweak it to a more delicate appearance and squeeze .001 percent more "impact" out of it if you wished.

The hands against the black background are very well done and effective, IMO.

Just as a side, I think you'd have a real contender in a lot of very large/prestigious shows with this image as about a 40" x 56" compressed charcoal on paper...

Re: Life

Thank you very much la and RCharleston! 40" x 56"? Man, that is big! My art teach deserves a lot of credit teaching me value theory. Since I'm a new guy at shows I guess I need to research some. She is pretty big on shows.

I have never sold my work I have always given it away. I don't even know how to price my paintings.
