Wild, West 'Taur WIP
On another world, a young female centaur works as a wrangler, rounding up the indiginous six-legged herbivores they raise for food. Like the cowboys of Earth, they must round them up periodically to move to fresh pasture, protect them from carnivores, seperate the breeders from the market calves, and, so on. This is a new painting I am doing for my friend, and, patron, Chiron22, and, I will start here with the preliminary sketches, and, follow up with updates as I get more done on it. This painting will be done in alkyds (fast drying oil paints) and will be on an Art & Enns 12x16 gessoed panel. So, here are the first sketches.
This is the first approved sketch of the general action in the painting, and, is based on a rough layout sketch by Chiron22 of what he is after.
This will be the 'calf' although I will be changing it slightly to having two pairs of front legs instead of two pairs of back legs.
...and this is the approved layout...fairly rough, but, all I need to get it going. My next step is to transfer this to my panel, and, get painting!

Kerry, it's so fun to look at the landscape coming into play. And what a creature, 6 legs! I've seen some of those on google images but they just hang down. So glad the legs of yours are functional!

Re: Wild, West 'Taur WIP
Hi, Sandra! Thank you! Yes, if they have them, they aught to be able to use them, right! Half the fun here is trying to think how thier anatomy would work, such as, how they would move ... do they move all legs on one side at a time, would they move more like a catapillar with each pair moving together in an undulating motion, or, do they have a convoluted and very confusing mixed lateral gait, whereby they move two legs on one side, and, three on the other, then switch over to the opposite side... Isn't fantasy fun!

Re: Wild, West 'Taur WIP
Thanks, Chiron22! I think this will be a cute painting, and, I'll enjoy painting it. I reworked the sky and canyonland background again today, but, I didn't work on it very long and it still needs more work, so, I'll wait to post update pics after I get more done on it. Hope to have something interesting to see next time!

Re: Wild, West 'Taur WIP
Aww...thank you! I started playing with alien creatures this morning! Still have to add more critters to the herd. I'll try to get all the critters blocked in before I go into more detail on them. How do you like the basic coloring of the pseudo-cows? I think I'll add spots to the calves like deer fawns.
