I like this alot,be careful what you replace the orange spot with as it does seem to be a nice way to show depth.
I hope others with more talent than i give you some ideas.

I agree with Trumper, leave the orange whatever it is
I am more concerned with the white patches across the landscape.
Is this canvas showing through?

It is taking shape beautifully Mary! I love the way you have captured the terraces on the right, very nicely done. I love your colour scheme and the effect of light you have conveyed. The middle hill doesn't bother me too much as it is small compared to the background expanse of mountains. I'm not sure how you can change it's central attraction? Perhaps if there was a bit more of the orange highlight on the hill next to it (viewers right) it may take the focus off just the central one? Good luck and am enjoying watching it take shape. Lovely work so far! Cheers Debs. =))

next step -- I deadened it a bit too much, but I still like it. For the most part.

I agree with Trumper, I really like it here! You warmed up the bottom left hand corner taking the total focus away from the middle hill, and have lightened the distant ranges. I would not really do any more, and should take my own advice because I am a fiddler! I get to a point and then add a bit, add a bit add a bit, and then I don't always like it as much. You have captured a lovely moody scene here and it has a nice sense of drama too! Love it Mary. Cheers Debs. =))
