Mixed media illustrations

While I mostly do wildlife art, I also like to create illustrations, not really based on any particular stories, just to get a different approach every once in a while. All of them are mixed media works including colored pencil/watercolor pencils/watercolor/acrylic/alcohol-based markers/ink in various amounts, on various surfaces. I was asked several times to illustrate something for publishers but I'm afraid I'm the kind of "free spirit" and totally cannot work when I feel the deadline whispering in my ear "hurry up or you won't finish on time" Terrible feeling. So I create these just for myself... well, like all of my work, for the time being.
Thanks for looking!

Re: Mixed media illustrations

Hi Olga!

Some very nice illustrations here! I like the fantasy theme and some of your character designs are cool!

I can totally relate to what you said about doing illustrations just for yourself, as that's very similar to what I do. I create illustrations for the sake of the illustrations. I guess you could also call them paintings, pictures...it doesn't really matter, but as they usually carry a rather big narrative weight, I do agree, they are illustrations even if they are not meant to illustrate anything in particular. I've never been asked to paint anything on commission for books or magazines, but I would be interesting to see how I'd get on with deadlines. For the moment I enjoy working at my own pace and letting the illustrations create their own story!

I found you on FB, I will like your page so that I can see some more of your work!

Antonio

Re: Mixed media illustrations

These are quite good. I can see why you have been asked.

Check with the legal eagles prior to agreeing to let anyone publish your work. You must keep control of the use beyond a specific use or you may find these nice pieces in unsavory places. It happens.

I also create images for children's books, but I live with the author...

I have thoroughly enjoyed these, perhaps you should try your hand at writing!

Life is good

Re: Mixed media illustrations

Thank you all very much! Quite unexpected kind comments, thanks so much

As for publishing etc. - I have been in digital industry as book cover artist, illustrator and general painter/photomanipulator and workshop leader/tutor for quite some time now so I'm familiar with contracts, legal use etc, sadly there are more and more frauds and people thinking they can get super gain with no effort, simply going with blatant theft. Oh well, this is one of reasons I decided to get back to traditional art, specifically to oil and acrylic painting that is now in full bloom on my easels, more and more I'm going away from this mad digital business as it made me very tired. Almost killed my creative side. Just... too much. And all in all it didn't bring much to buy food for - insane effort, no impressive effect, except for stress and eyes hurting from the computer screen LOL. Anyways, having my husband in deep love with my traditional works (he's the old-fashioned guy ) I now feel much less under pressure, much more creative, having much more time for my family.
Ouch, what a diggression Forgive me, I'm the kind that just looooooves to chat by the cup of coffee and some chocolate muffins and once I start I cannot stop >_<
Shh, away to the next painting
