Stitch in Time August 2012

Since there hasn't been any sign of Martha in over a month, I will be starting the Stitch again this month. Wonder if she's ok?

I see from the July Stitch that Jen got home with the goats without a problem from the goats. The tire, not so good. And Eva is unhappy with her weather. I don't blame her in the least.

Today has been my usual Wednesday, do the chores before DH starts back to work tomorrow. But, added in, I am making lollies. Two batch done so far and more to go. Unfortunately, the forecast is still for hot on the day of the show. Makes for very soft caramels and melting lollies. Gonna try putting gel packs under the candy on the table and frozen gel packs in the ice chest with what isn't out. However, most of the candy will be on the table... Back to hot sugar syrup on the stove.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Well, I hope Martha won't mind, but I decided to check up on her. She is posting regularly on her blog and is very inspirational. Wouldn't hurt any of us to PM her and let her know we're thinking of her.

Well Jen, I was very interested in the goats. They are so cute. I always visit the pygmies - pygoras - when I go to the fair. They are always so active and mischievious.

My business has picked up and I'm happy, but it seems the grass is always greener on the other side. I'd rather be creating art. Husband's going out of town for a few days with golfing buddies, so I'm going to take advantage of that spare time.

I'm trying to get some things done for an art show next week. It will be my first venture, so I'm hoping I can hold my head up when all's been said and done.

Carole, good to see you. It has been a while. Good luck on your art show next week. Glad that business has picked up for you.

Debby, thanks for starting the thread again this month. I know Martha is into other things right now.

Well I still am on the computer and haven't ever walking into the sewing room today. Tomorrow I will be there.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Carole, you will do fine at the art show. Glad to hear things are picking up for you.

It's ok to take a day off, Eva.

Got another batch of lollies done last night. Wrapped them this morning. Made another batch and am letting it cool right now. Have to clean the candy out of the pot to make another batch this afternoon. That will replace all the damaged candy. I'll still have tomorrow if I feel like making something else/new. On Saturday I'll be going out to mom's. My sister is driving out so her youngest can get some grandma time this next week. But, she's going back the next day. Then, on Sunday is the show.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

How-do......guess I will start August off with posting something I actually made this week, neck candy. It's just a doo-dad for the neck that can be adjusted to as loose or snug as desired with the jeweled button thingy I sewed on it. I made up the pattern as I went. Kind of like the way it turned out.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Nice looking piece Bonnie.

Debby, hope all your lollipops turn out well and don't melt before they are sold. It sounds like you are going to be busy from now until the end of Sunday with family, candy and the show. Good Luck with it all.

Today I was slow, slow and no energy. I did manage to get one outfit made but it took all day. I decided it needed a detachable collar and because I kept making mistakes, the seam ripper was my friend. Any way I finally finish it. I was retro, then country and now Victorian. This has been some week.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Bonnie, cool neck fru-fru. Glad to see you making things again.

Eva, sometimes a seam ripper is the best tool. The doll is just darling in the dress.

Yup, busy, busy here. Got the last batch of lollies made this morning. This afternoon, I'll be making GF granola bars. That will be lunch at the show. With it being hot, I don't want to bring something like a sandwich or salad that would spoil in the heat, especially if I don't feel like eating. While I was waiting for the lollies to cool, I cut out a few Nessie's to sew up. Figured I'd bring them to mom's tomorrow when I visit with sis. I can talk and sew at the same time.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Seeing today was my birthday we went out to the casino for an hour this morning and we both lost, Boo, Humbug but I guess we have to once in a while because we had won the last couple of time. Then came home and had to wait around for the flowers from my daughter. They didn't come until almost 3pm so while waiting I made a doll dress.

We then took off to cruise the antique malls. Did not find anything that we wanted or was of a reasonable price. We were hot and tired after all that and the in and off of the car so on the way home stopped at Pizza Hut for a pizza and now we are eating it. I think it has been over a year since we had a pizza.

Thanks Margo.

Here is the flower arrangement that my DD and SIL sent. I had never seen one like this before.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Happy Birthday, Eva I've never seen a flower arrangement like that either. Very cute. Sorry you lost at the casino. But indulging in pizza is a true birthday dinner.

Hi Margo.

Went to mom's today. Got to see my sister. She and I talked about branding for my products. She's a graphic artist working in the advertising field so a good resource. Her son is 13 and wanted to buy a bow while he was here. Since he's flying back we all agreed that wasn't a good idea. I have a lighter weight bow and so brought it out and a target so he could play with it. Within an hour he'd ruined or lost all but one arrow. I kind of expected it. That's why he only had 4 of my arrows, not all of them. His mom decided we should get him some more arrows so he could continue to be entertained without resorting to sitting in front of the TV or video games. Was able to find some reasonably priced target arrows and grandma bought them for him. I've got to start packing the truck now for tomorrow.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Whew, tired! And it's late here and church tomorrow so need to be quick. I lost sleep last night, just happens sometimes, and then we helped at a church community outreach thing our church did for the start of school. We had face painting, nails, free hair cuts for kids and parents alike by 2 beauticians, a castle trampoline/slide, a climbing tower (that was amazing!), cake walk......you name it. We gave out book bags and had quite a few bikes to give out (brand new)......hot dogs, chips, nachos, chili and drinks.......no charge, all free. It was fun to help and enjoy talking to everyone. I love our church.

Here's the tower....I wish I had climbed it after it was all over. Didn't dawn on me at the time. The little gal on the side swinging from it was only about 6!

Me, with the gal who organized the whole thing. She is studying for ministry (married with kids and older than she looks cuz she looks like 20's!).

Happy late Birthday, Eva! Beautiful flower cake!

Hi Debby, Margo, everyone! Off to bed.........

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Very interesting floral arrangement Eva, some one has finally come up with a calorie free birthday cake!

Today was the lowrider car show in Espanola, which bills itself as the lowrider capital of the world. I don't know about that but there were some very cool cars there. I would like to do a series of portraits of the artists and mechanical wizards who do the hydraulics in front of their cars. There are quite a few of them in Chimayo so I should probably start there as it's close. I was going to sketch and paint cars today but it was unbearably hot outside on the asphalt, so I took a bunch of pictures and I guess I will have to paint from them. Not really my thing I like to do it from life but whatever. There was a huge electrical storm on the way home then a deluge, always fun on a 2 lane road on Saturday night! ACK!!!!!!!!! I haven't made the county fair yet I guess if it's still going tomorrow I'll go then. It was the car show or the fair. I'm pretty much surrounded by farms and ranches so the exotic cars won. Lots of beautiful old cars, Chevy's being the most popular with most of the locals. There was even a car with 2 built in coolers in the trunk along with a wetbar with vintage faucets. Soooo cool!

Off to sketch people on the British series I'm watching, lots of outrageous eyebrows and interesting noses. Night all

Good luck at your show tomorrow Debby.

Bonnie, you guys look like you had a fun time.

Margo, glad you got some pictures of the cars. Now you can sketch them.

Debby, fingers crossed your weather was good and your sales were great.

Nothing much here today. Made one dress and started on three more.

Re: Stitch in Time August 2012

Sounds like fun, Bonnie. You should have climbed the rock wall. I hear it's fun.

Margo, the heat has been killer. You were wise to just take photos. I know it's not the same as life drawing, but it's better than not drawing at all.

Hi Eva. Looking forward to more beautiful dolls.

Well, it was hot, hot, hot. In addition to that, someone new was in charge of the show. Since this is at a monastery and a fund raiser for them, the nuns who live and work there have always had someone outside run things. (Not sure why, but the woman who did it was really good.) Not sure what happened, but one of the sisters was in charge this time. There is usually a car show and a quilt show as well as a kids carnival and the craft show. They had a kids carnival, but it was much smaller and a lot less than in the past. There are also usually huge buses of people from Catholic churches in the adjoining counties. This year no car show, no quilt show and no busloads of people. Add in the heat and the crowd was small. Then there was the fact that instead of all the tents being set up on the lawn, they put some of us in a parking lot. I was in the parking lot. My candy melted, literally. I had to empty the table into the ice chest where I had frozen gel packs. I did lose some candy, but it would have been less of a problem if I'd been on the lawn under a tree like I have been in the past. I sold some, but was about 2/3 of what I usually make at this show. I was overheated and starving by the time we packed up. DH was a prince. He got everything loaded in the truck and took me straight to an air conditioned restaurant for dinner and some more liquid. I'd been drinking water all day, but it wasn't enough. I also didn't feel like eating much in the heat during the day, which is why I ended up starving in spite of the heat by the end of the day.
